Celebrating the Magic of Quidditich in Canada!

This past Tuesday, the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue was joined by Team Canada Quidditch member, Chris Radojewski, who came to speak about the evolution of the game. Quidditch is a sport created by J.K. Rowling for the Harry Potter novels.

In the books, Quidditch is played by witches and wizards on broomsticks but was brought to life by combining elements of handball, dodgeball, rugby, and flag football.

Quidditch has grown in such popularity that there are teams across Canada and the world, including Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, Vietnam, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, and Malaysia.  In addition to team Canada, Chris plays for the local Qudditch team, the Edmonton Aurors.

The National Quidditich Championship was scheduled to take place in Edmonton until it was sadly delayed due to the Novel Coronavirus outbreak.

Chris provided a fun presentation and club members and friends enjoyed hearing how Quidditch has evolved from a work of fiction into a serious and competitive sport that is growing in popularity. Thank you for coming Chris!

Rotaraction for Change: Project Paws Postponed
A message from The University of Alberta Rotaract Club on the event they announced at our last meeting: "The University of Alberta Rotaract Club has made the difficult decision to postpone our Rotaraction for Change: Project Paws event until Fall 2020. With the growing concern and severity of the COVID-19 virus in our community, we feel that it is better to reschedule our event than to risk the health and wellbeing of our attendees. Our current plan is to either hold the event in September or October with a specific date not yet chosen."
