Tackling Homelessness From A Unique Perspective 

At our first meeting of the new Rotary year, members and friends enjoyed a thought-provoking presentation on RECOVER: Edmonton’s Urban Wellness Plan.  Susan Coward, manager of Urban Wellness with the the City of Edmonton, presented on the results from researchers who have spent time getting to know marginalized people in the Strathcona neighbourhood and in the river valley. Using the principle of ethnography, Recover Project workers conducted these interviews to determine what motivates and empowers vulnerable members of the population. Susan emphasized how this work goes toward improving wellness by turning local ideas for strengthening our communities into reality. Rotary members asked great questions about the project and how this work ties into Rotary supported initiatives, such as the Dinner Club at the Neighbour Centre.
