The Iconic Robert Lang

This past Tuesday, Robert Lang, the Edmonton broadcasting pioneer and safe-cracker extraordinaire came to our club and shared his incredible story with members and friends. The Club learned how Robert honed his craft and started his business. We also heard exciting safe cracking stories, including one where he neutralized a nitroglycerin riddled safe after an attempted robbery! He recounted amazing stories supporting the Edmonton police and helping banks. Robert also told us how he learned by experience how to maintain the clock now represented on the Rotary Whyte Ave logo! A fantastic presentation from a great storyteller and Rotarian, thank you Robert for joining us and thank you to everyone who made it out!

Having Fun and Making a Difference at Edmonton's Food Bank

This past Wednesday, Rotary Whyte Avenue members and friends rolled up their sleeves for a good cause! Since 1981, Edmonton's Food Bank has been providing food and services to empower individuals struggling with food security and poverty. Edmonton Whyte Ave Rotary helped out by bringing a large group to work in the warehouse. Tasks included sorting food, creating care packages, and of course having a great time!  Thank you to the YEG Passport Club for coming out and supporting, to Community Services Chair Kristin for organizing, and for all the volunteers who made it out!

Rotary Spotlight: Mariyln Mucha
(Marilyn with Past-President Scott)

Our club takes a moment each meeting to celebrate the hard work of members, the day to day activities done to support the club, and/or to highlight a positive contribution to the club or community.

This week we celebrate the hard work of Marilyn Mucha! Marilyn helped organize our trip to Nova Cannabis this upcoming Tuesday so we can learn about this new business. Marilyn tirelessly works to find new and exciting speakers and trips for our club and this visit to an emerging business just off Whyte promises to be an exciting an informative trip! Marilyn embodies the 'fun, fearless, and focused' theme of our club and we're lucky to have her as such a dedicated member!

Thank you Marilyn!
Rotary Foundation Receives Highest Rating for 12th Consecutive Year

For the 12th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating — four stars — from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S. The Foundation earned the recognition for demonstrating both strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. Only one percent of the organizations Charity Navigator evaluates have received 12 consecutive 4-star evaluations.

"Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that The Rotary Foundation exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work", says Michael Thatcher, president and chief executive officer of Charity Navigator. "This exceptional designation sets the Foundation apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness."
