Last Tuesday, Rotary Whyte Avenue members were excited to welcome our newest member, Darren Chin. Darren is currently an Analyst in Deloitte Edmonton’s consulting practice and has already become an integral member of the club by supporting volunteer events and speaking at our recent District Leadership Assembly. Welcome aboard Darren!
A little about Darren:
Darren is currently an Analyst in Deloitte Edmonton’s consulting practice, recently graduating from a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta School of Business this past year. Darren has a rich history with Rotary District 5370 throughout his time in high school and university, having held a variety of leadership roles ranging at the local club level to the District-level. Darren started his Rotary journey with the District’s first Interact Club – Edmonton Centennial Rotary Interact Club at Ross Sheppard High School, acting as the Treasurer and supporting the Interact Club’s international initiatives to assist primary schools in Belize, and local projects with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Darren continued his involvement with Rotary by joining the newly formed RYLE and RYLA Committee in its inaugural year; the Committee was comprised entirely of Rotary youth who led these Rotary district events rather than Rotarians, a completely new initiative for the District and unique among other Districts. Darren eventually became Co-Chair for this Committee alongside Rachel Poelzer from 2014-2016. During his tenure, Darren was able to establish a variety of practices and provide precedent for procedures and the organizational structure for the Committee and events.
Outside of Rotary, Darren has been heavily involved at the Alberta School of Business, taking on lead roles related to business competitions, where he has competed in Halifax and Saskatoon.Darren is also involved with debate, placing 2nd in a Western Canadian business-style debate competition in 2016. Beyond his volunteer commitments, Darren enjoys travelling, having travelled extensively in Europe and East Asia for over 3 years, and has volunteered in Taiwan as an English teacher for 2 months before.Darren also enjoys film photography and tinkering with old film cameras.
Welcome aboard Darren!
