(Rotary Whyte Avenue's own Kristen Jennings presenting on women's health in Tanzania in November 2019

We all know of the fantastic work our fearless Community Services Chair Kristin Jennings does in our community, but this week we got to learn about her incredible work abroad! Last Tuesday, Kristin came and presented on her efforts supporting sustainable menstrual care and health education in Tanzania.

Kristin explained that, for some women and girls in Tanzania, education about menstruation is not readily available. What's more, many women also face barriers in accessing safe and sustainable menstrual hygiene products.

To help overcome these barriers, Kristin went with a small group to schools across Tanzania in November 2019 to make a difference. She spent over six days distributing kits across rural Tanzania, provided presentations, as well as did demos at rural schools in Tanzania.

Kristin talked about their important work to support menstrual education, including by showcasing some of the materials distributed. She also raised how her group provided dental hygiene presentations for the boys at the schools so that all students received support. She also talked about going beyond schools and supporting families, which they did through a community presentation for about 30 women (all of which also received kits).

Kristin ended off her journey with an amazing climb up Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa!  An fantastic presentation by an incredible Rotarian, thank you for speaking to our club Kristin!
