On November 5th Deborah Barrett visited the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue to speak on how her autistic son Anthony’s specific skill set spawned the origin of the delivery business Anthony at Your Service.

In 2012 Anthony Barrett had completed high school and was attending an adult literacy program at Norquest College to help occupy his time.  His Mother Deborah was at her wits end trying to imagine a future for a son who had so much to offer but who’s cognitive challenges had him pigeon-holed as unemployable.  While discussing viable options with Anthony’s assistant, Mike Hamm, the prospect of advertising Anthony’s availability to do deliveries originated.  Mike ran with this concept and created a fun and compelling promotional video which he then uploaded to youtube.  Response to this video was overwhelming and Anthony at Your Service was born.

It soon became apparent that sustained demand for this custom personalized delivery service necessitated hiring additional staff.  A call-out for adults with intellectual disabilities to help meet this demand brought several candidates eager for the opportunity of a fulfilling occupation.

Anthony at Your Service has since expanded to Calgary.  In the past seven years the company has provided paid work to over 50 individuals who may not not have otherwise had that experience.  Each scheduled delivery takes into account both the unique requirements of the client and the strengths and challenges of each employee.
