One of the best ways to strengthen our Club and build member potential is to give members the tools and skills to be even better Rotarians! With this in mind, the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue has developed the New Club Leadership Development Program! Through this program, interested members will be supported to learn and run a regularly scheduled Rotary meeting. Running a meeting includes: -Opening and closing the meeting - Preparing a PowerPoint presentation (PowerPoint template will be shared) - Moderating questions to the presenter -Help setting up the meeting - Presenting the 'Thank you' present to the the presenter (if applicable). By taking part in this program, you will be able to strengthen your presenting and interpersonal skills, gather a great understanding of Rotary and meeting processes, and play an essential role in support of the club.
Rotary Members can sign up for a meeting or learn more by contacting club President Kevin (kggmcleod@hotmail.com).
Thank you to everyone who takes part! |

Hello everyone! In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, support from our club is needed more than ever! We had originally planned a communual night of cooking on March 31st - instead we are going to individually make meals for the the thirteen folks living at Melcor Village, who are supported by the Skills Society. I am asking 8-12 members of our club to make 13 individually portioned meals to be ready for pick-up on the evening of Tuesday March 31st. Please have your meals packaged in either dispoable or reusable individual containers (new containers please). I will then deliever the pre-packaged meals to Skills Society for freezing (you can pass your meals to me either having been refrigerated or frozen). The health of our members and the folks we support is of utmost importance. Please do not sign up or make meals if you (or a loved one in your home) are feeling under the weather (whether you have been tested for COVID-19 or not). If you sign up to cook a meal, and become symptomatic of illness, please be in contact with me and we can find you a replacement. Of the 13 people whom we are meal prepping for, 2 of the individuals are living with diabetes. Please be concise of making your meal 'heart healthy' with reduced sugar content. If you need help meal planning, please don't hesitate to reach out! There are no other allergies or food intolerances to be aware of for meal preparation. I will be in touch with each of the volunteers to arange pick-up times on the evening of the 31st. The Edmonton Food Bank is short of funds and food, so our meal support is appreciated by many! Please make your own hotel reservations - some of us are staying at the Crimson Hotel (https://mpljasper.com/hotels/crimson), or Lobstick Hotel (http://www.lobsticklodgehotel-jasper.com/) but feel free to stay wherever you wish - but book soon as Jasper is busy at this time of year. May 09, 2020 - Jun. 30, 2020
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, our club was not able to support the Operation Friendship Senior's Society (OFSS) by preparing lunch in-person this month as we initially planned. In the meantime, we have come up with another way to help support OFSS: The Coffee Cup Roundup. OFSS accepts donations of new or used coffee cups to use in their centre and it would be great to help them out by collecting cups.
Please check your cupboards and if you find some coffee mugs that you don't use, set them side and our amazing President-elect Stan B will collect them from you and deliver them to OFSS when it is safe to do so. If you would like to get the cups out of your house right away, and feel comfortable dropping them off on my front porch, feel free to email Stan (s_bissell@hotmail.com) to coordinate a drop off time.
OFSS has also let us know that there are other ways that we can help support them:
1. OFSS Bottle Drive - if you have a collection of bottles waiting to go to the depot, you can call or email the OFSS Community Relations Supervisor, Jimmy Morrison, to arrange a time for OFSS to come pick them up from your doorstep. You can also take in the bottles on your own and then donate the proceeds for a tax receipt via the OFSS homepage.
2. Disposables - once the OFSS Drop-in Centre is allowed to open, they will need disposable items, such as paper plates, cups, and utensils. Stan is collecting donations of these single-use items and take them to the centre along with the coffee cups.

Hello everyone! There is an ever-pressing need to support our community partners in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our three previous make-ahead meal events were so well received, we are organizing another one! Again, we are going to make individual meals for the thirteen folks supported by the Skills Society who are living at Melcor YMCA Village. Our contact at Skills Society and the folks we have provided meals for have expressed great appreciation for all of our previous care packages we have delivered! I am asking members/friends of our club to make 13 individually-portioned meals to be ready for pick-up on the evening of Monday, June 8th. Please have your meals packaged in new microwave-safe reusable individual containers. If you need assistance acquiring container, please reach out to me. Please label your containers with the name of the meal and date made. Of note: you do not need to list out the ingredients in the meals/baked goods. I will deliver the pre-packaged meals and baked goods to Melcor (you can pass your meals to me either having been refrigerated or frozen). The health of our members and the folks we support is of utmost importance. Please do not sign up or make meals if you (or a loved one in your home) are feeling under the weather (whether you have been tested for COVID-19 or not). If you sign up to cook a meal, and become symptomatic of any illness, please be in contact with me and we can find you a replacement. Please make sure to follow hand hygiene practices when shopping, prepping and packing your meals - let's all do our part to minimize the risk of spread of disease. If you want to support this initiative but are unable to cook or bake meals, please reach out to me and we can figure out where your efforts are best suited. I have also added a sign-up for purchasing tote bags to disseminate the meals. I will be in touch with each of the volunteers to arrange pick-up times on the evening of June 8th. Thank you! |
