Mar. 16, 2018 - Mar. 18, 2018
On the weekend of Friday March 16 to Sunday March 18, we will be hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, walking, shopping, and eating pizza in beautiful Jasper Alberta! We have one planned group event - pizza at Jasper Pizza, at 6 pm on the Saturday. The rest of the weekend you are free to do as you please - some of us are arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday night, but you can come and leave as you schedule allows. Some of us will be skiing (and getting a personal guided tour of Marmot Basin by our own Marmot Patroller Scott Young). Please make your own hotel reservations - some of us are staying at the Crimson Hotel (https://mpljasper.com/hotels/crimson), but feel free to stay wherever you wish - but book soon as Jasper is busy at this time of year. Please register for the event on this site, or contact TIM ONCIUL (tim.onciul@silvacom.com, 780 975 2160) if you plan on attending, so we can get some idea as to numbers for the pizza outing on Saturday night. We look forwards to seeing you there! |

Nelson Scott will speaking to our club about: "Improve retention, boost morale and increase engagement with high-value, low-cost staff recognition. Your resources— time and money—may be limited, but that doesn’t have to prevent you from recognizing staff in ways that they will value. There are simple, easy-to-use tools and techniques that you can use to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of staff, volunteers and others in your life." |

Amarok Society
Apr. 17, 2018
Gem Munro will speak about how Amarok Society provides education to the poorest children in the city slums of Bangladesh and Pakistan in a unique way; rather than opening schools for children, we teach their mothers. Each mother then becomes a neighbourhood teacher, allowing Amarok Society to economically reach far more children than with the traditional school model. In particular, Gem will speak to the social impact of education and the lives of the women who are transforming their communities. |

Project Amigo
Aug. 07, 2018 6:00 p.m.
Project Amigo supports students from Colima, Mexico so that they can create their own educational opportunities and better their quality of life. To do this, we remove the financial barriers to education through scholarships that include school fees, transportation, uniforms and school supplies, and a hot lunch. Our staff also provide tutoring and mentoring during Project Amigo Homework Club. Homework Clubs also provide us with a way of keeping in close touch with the students so we can identify problems before they become so severe that the student is forced to drop out of school. We also provide opportunities for volunteers from other countries to do valuable humanitarian service that creates and fosters friendship and understanding across cultures. Education and literacy are powerful tools to create a brighter future for the world’s children who in turn benefit the nations they live in. Since 1984, Project Amigo has worked with rural youth in Mexico to continue their formal schooling including university level. Project Amigo became a U.S. 501c3 non-profit charity in 1996, providing educational scholarships, material support, enrichment activities, and health care to disadvantaged youth in the state of Colima, Mexico. Volunteer Work Weeks based at our headquarters in the beautiful hillside village of Cofradía de Suchitlán allow volunteers from other countries to engage in humanitarian service and become both friends and sponsors of Mexican youth seeking the many advantages of education. The Stollery Women's Network
Aug. 14, 2018
Brianne will be speaking to our club about the Stollery Women’s Network (SWN). SWN started in 2014 with a small group of women who wanted to advocate for the Stollery Children’s Hospital’s patients and their families. Today they have a network of over 550 and continue to raise awareness and funds for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. Their current fundraising efforts go to our Giving Comfort campaign, which provides comfort items, such as t-shirts, blankets, toiletry kits and colouring books for patients and their families in the Stollery’s emergency room. This is the first type of program of its kind within the Stollery’s ER and last year they were able to raise $267,000. There are many ways to get involved with SWN, through volunteering at our educational booths, spreading our message on social media, attending our many fundraising events and of course donating to the Giving Comfort campaign.
