With the count of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, the Rotary Club of Innisfil buried their paddles in Kempenfelt Bay. With Mother Nature on their side they participated in an amazing race where they saw challenges, successes and drama. Who knew what the day would bring. An experience like no other!

It started with waking the dragons of the boats ceremony at the 2011 Barrie Dragon Boat Festival and ended with waking the dragons within of the Rotary Club of Innisfil's Blazing Paddlers! Our first race was a bit of an eye opener to what team work and synchronicity means. With our trainer Pam, who donated her time to help and support we had the beginnings of a great day. For our second race we elevated our standings to posting the best time subsequently putting us on top of the leader board for our Division. Everyone was pumped and ready for the finals. With unfortunate circumstances coming our way the title wasn't ours but that didn't deter us from celebrating and planning to come back next year.

This was a new experience for the Rotary Club of Innisfil. Not only did we participate in something new, we were able to fundraise for the KOA Kids With Cancer Camp, sell Rotary Beaver tickets for the September race, build awareness of the Rotary Fishing Tournament and connect with other teams building goodwill and fellowship amongst us all. Our team consisted of members, family and friends from all ages starting at 16. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Thanks to everyone that participated, fundraised and organized. Hats off to Marlene for being our team leader on this new and what looks like continuing adventure!
