The Rotary Club of Chicago Lakeview is an official sponsor of the Secret Garden Gala, a formal event to benefit the Glenwood Sunday Market's food access program. The Secret Garden Gala promises to be an elegant formal affair featuring live music, delicious seasonal food, free-flowing refreshments, and surprises around every corner on the posh rooftop deck of the new Rogers Park Hampton Inn. Rogers Park is one of the most diverse communities in the country and serves as a port of entry for immigrants and refugees from across the globe. Approximately one in five residents experience food insecurity, meaning they don't know where their next meal is coming from. The Glenwood Sunday Market commits to serving neighbors in need through their Market For All initiative. Market For All provides matching micro-grants for shoppers using SNAP/Link (formerly food stamps) at the farmers market to triple people's food dollars at the market. This initiative helps neighbors in need afford fresh, local food while also supporting local small businesses, farmers and food artisans. Through generous donations, it has served over 150 individuals in 2018, giving away more than $20,000 for fresh produce and local food. Tickets can be purchased here: https://business.rpba.org/events/details/secret-garden-gala-6622 If you are attending, please register on our club website to allow us to track member attendance. Register on our site by May 8 to enter a raffle for free tickets for both the Garden Gala and VIP Cocktail Hour! Rooftop Terrace at Hampton Inn Chicago North at Loyola Station |

Hello Rotarians Our club will be partnering with Rise Against Hunger to package over 10,000 meals to be distributed globally to places in need. Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world's most vulnerable, mobilizing the necessary resources to end hunger by 2030. The assembly process combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 23 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packages. These meal packages are shipped around the world to support school feeding programs and crisis relief. The food stores easily, transports quickly and has a shelf-life of two years. The event will be at the Nettelhorst School in Lakeview on June 15, 2019. The entire project will take place from 9 am until 2 pm, which includes three different shifts for helping. For the morning shift (9 am to 11 am) we will need 6-10 volunteers to help unload the food truck and set up for the packaging. After the set up, we will need the most amount of volunteers for the actual packaging process (11:00 am to 1:00 pm). Finally, we will need a few volunteers to stay behind after the packaging is complete to help break down and clean up (1:00 to 2:00 pm). Provided below is a link to the registration. Please select which shift or shifts work best for you. Friends and family members are welcome to join, but please complete a registration for each volunteer attending the event. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Nick Registration Link: https://forms.gle/

There have 33 parking spaces in front of the building that are first come, first serve - we encourage car pooling, if possible! Note that the parking lot is sectioned off from a large shipping and receiving complex. Pease do not drive beyond the concrete barricades separating the lot from the rest of the complex.

Hello members! As many of you know, September is Hunger Awareness month and our club participates in a number of hunger-related projects throughout the year and in particularly September. One of the most “common” partners our club works with on this issue is The Common Pantry. On September 7th the Common Pantry will be participating in the 34th Annual Hunger Walk, organized by the Greater Chicago Food Depository, which supports more than 700 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs across Chicago – including Common Pantry, the oldest continually operating food pantry in the city. Each year, the Hunger Walk provides an opportunity for Common Pantry to earn credits to purchase food for Chicagoans in need. The Common Pantry receives food credit for every walker who registers under our name. The credits from last year lasted through JUNE of this year! This year’s walk will take place at Jackson Park. Common Pantry will have a bus transporting walkers to and from the Pantry. The Common Pantry is located at 3744 N. Damen Ave. Please note, this is not a club event however we still encourage any member, friends or family who are able to participate to join the walk and help out our friends at the Common Pantry.
How to Register: Clink on the below link, then select Join a team. On the next screen search for Common Pantry A00003 to join their team. Once you get to the select registrations, use the + sign to indicate the number of registrations and then hit register. If you are unable to walk but would still like to help out you can hit the Donate button instead and select Common Pantry A00003 as the team you would like the donation to be credited to. All registrations need to be entered by August 27th. https://www.classy.org/event/
Please let me know if you have any questions. Nick |
