WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings, Fellow Rotarians!
Remember Rotary international Convention will be held June 20th to June 26th starting each day at 8am.  The first general session on Saturday will include speeches from Rotary International President Mark Maloney and Antonio Guterres who is the Secretary-General of the United Nations.  If you remember from your Rotary trivia, Rotary is the only non-government agency who holds a seat at the United Nations.

During Saturday’s session, you will be able to “travel” to Hawaii to experience the Honolulu Mural Project, learn about e-clubs and how clubs are meeting virtually, listen to an update on polio eradication efforts, and learn how the existing infrastructures are helping in the coronavirus battle around the world.

Tod will be leading the meeting this week as I will be in Alabama helping my sister-in-law.  Depending on our schedule there, I may join you by Zoom.
Judy

SECRETARY REPORT
  • ZOOM meeting was conducted on June 11th (11:30 AM), with 6 members participating and Larry Johansen again joining us as a guest
  • President Judy welcomed everyone and reviewed the Agenda and topics of discussion for the day. Duane provided the Opening Prayer and Tod led the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Treasurer's Report:  No update available ... previous account balance was $5,936.34. Some membership dues have been received but are not included in this amount.  Grants account balance was $1,424.00.
  • Membership:  Yearly dues ($220) are to be sent to the club's mailbox:  WDC Rotary, P.O. Box 265, Elkhorn NE 68022.  All members have received their individual invoice ... please pay promptly, but no later than the last week of June.
  • Scholarship Breakfast:  EPSF has officially cancelled it's awards breakfasts.  EHS and ESHS graduations occurred Sunday so students may no longer be available for an in-person WDC Rotary breakfast (Common Ground is still closed to all activities).
  • COPE Beef Grant: The last DC West food distribution event was Wednesday June 10th.  Several WDC Rotary members assisted.  Jim reported that approximately 100 families were served.  Excess food was delivered to Bethany (3 pick-up trucks, plus a trailer and van were full!).  Jim will submit a completion report to District 5650 and close out the temporary account ($3,360 of hamburger was distributed to needy families).  KETV Channel 7 was on site and videoed several Rotarians in action.  An attempt will be made to secure a copy of their news broadcast for future publicity.
  • Bike Grant:  District 5650 matching-funds decision should be received fairly soon. Gail has submitted the Rotary "logo" and lettering ("In memory of Ron Mortensen, WDC Rotary") to the manufacturer.  WDC Rotary's responsibility will be $1,000
  • Golf Outing:  Our annual golf outing has officially been moved to July 20th.   It appears that we will be able to field 10 or 11 teams. Recommendation is to have Arby's provide box lunches in lieu of a post-event dinner.  Raffle prizes / golf winners might need to be awarded in a "parking-lot" format ... very informal.  Volunteers are needed. Contact Mike and get teams and hole sponsors ($100) committed as soon as possible.
  • RI's International Conference will be June 20-26. District Rotary Conference will be July 25th.  Polio Plus donations need to be mailed prior to July 1st in order to receive Gates Foundation's 2-for-1 matching funds
  • Next ZOOM meeting will be Thursday, June 18th at 11:30 AM.  ZOOM invitation will be sent via email.
