The Metro Area Rotary Luncheon is being held Thursday noon this week at the UNO'S new Baxter Arena in the vicinity of Ak - Sar - Ben Village at 11:30 am and speaker will be Mike Kemp. I presume you can pay at the door.
President Roger opened the meeting following a delicious breakfast of pizza and sausage (we should have instant oatmeal because there is always so much waste). Jim Tomanek gave the invocation and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Roger introduced a visiting from Suburban Rotary, Eric Stueckrath. President Roger recognized Jasmine for her fine hairdo and stockings and a picture was taken (of course) and is shown below, obviously you saw that before you started reading this script.
Treasurer Rita reported our bank balance exceeding $10k, reaching $10,161.86. Secretary Ron referred to the bulletin for his report, except to say that Thursdays lunch bunch speaker advised us to take our time upgrading to Windows 10 because Windows 7 is good until 2020 and there have been glitches with Windows 10 that needed working out.
Neil and Jill handed out a flyer announcing the 90th anniversary of Commercial State Bank. (See the separate article for details on the free lunch on Nov 5)
Shown in the photo above, right to left, are Ashley Petersen, Assistant Manager and Trevor Fleming of the Travel Design Lounge which is a branch of Travel and Transport of Omaha. The lounge is located in the Shops of Legacy at 168 th and West Center. The Lounge just opened this summer and is available for potential travelers to come in and visit with travel experts while enjoying the comfortable setting with easy chairs and beverages.
Ashley and Trevor explained the comprehensive travel services offered by Travel and Transport for domestic and world wide travel, including the availability) of travel guides and resources in guidebooks and on-line accessible materials and information, including a smart phone app for travelers for convenient access to those resources.
At the conclusion of their presentation, they made available a copy of the travel magazine, VIRTUOSO LIFE-HOW TO TRAVEL BETTER to each of us. (Having reviewed the magazine, I believe it is a good-read resource for potential global travel planning - Ron)
our club will be ringing the Salvation Army Red Kettle bell on November 23rd, 24th, and 25th at the Family Fare grocery store located at 204th & Pacific Street. A signup sheet will be provided beginning November 5th, we will be ringing from 10:00AM to 8:00PM each day
The Commercial State Bank was founded 90 years ago in Wausau, Nebraska and they are hosting a free luncheon at the Elkhorn branch on Thursday, November 5th from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. For )those who live in Omaha, the branch is located at 1918 North 103rd Street in Elkhorn (about a half mile North and a half mile West of our Common Ground meeting location)
Contrary to the rumors, Neil wasn't at the original founding in 1925.
Ordinarily, the LUNCH BUNCH meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. For the month of November, there will be only one meeting and that is on the 18th at Shevy's. The usual meeting dates, November 11 and November 25 are canceled because of Veteran's Day on the 11th and Thanksgiving Week and bell ringing on the 25th.
For Veterans in our club, Cal Hinz has suggested that we meet at HyVee on 180th and Pacific at 8:30 AM on the 11th to participate in their complimentary breakfast and swap sea stories and war stories. You know the stories; peeling potatoes at Fort Riley, Kansas or swabbing decks on a ship in the Caribbean Sea.
Judy Cline of the Suburban Rotary Club will attend our November 12th meeting to give us brief information about the Omaha metro Rotary networking event. She will also give the date, time and location of the event.
