PRESIDENT JUDY

Hello, Fellow Rotarians!

I was on our District website and saw some trivia about our Rotary International President, Ian H.S. Riseley of Australia.  According to Julie O’Hara, he likes music, especially upbeat music.  Some of his favorite artists:  AC/DC, Little River Band, Men at Work, Keith Urban, Rick Springfield, Air Supply, and the Bee Gees.  I don’t know about the rest of you but sometimes I forget that our Rotary leaders are ordinary folks just like us.  We are all neighbors, friends, and community leaders working together to make our community and our world a better place for everyone.

Thanks to each and every one of you for what you do!

  • COPE Adopt A Family…is in full swing.  There are 133 families consisting of 540 individuals that are being supported this year.  On Friday 12/7, beginning at 9:00am, volunteers are needed at Peace Presbyterian Church to help sort and organize the Adopt A Family gifts which will be handed out the following day.
  • On Thursday, 12/13 the West O Chamber Food Basket program will need volunteers to gather all the food items from the area schools that have been involved, and deliver the items to Bethany Lutheran Church.  This begins at 9:00am
  • On Friday, December 14th, volunteers are needed at Bethany to start sorting food and filling the food baskets.  There is help requested at 9am, 1pm and 3pm for various phases of the project.
  • On Saturday, December 15th, people are needed for food basket deliveries across Western Douglas County.  This begins at 9:00am at Bethany.
  • Jim also reminded us that the COPE toy/gift drive is underway.   If you would like to donate new, unwrapped toys, new winter wearables for kids and/or adults, or make a monetary donation, you can bring this to the 12/6 Rotary meeting or drop them off at American Interstate Bank, Charter West Bank, Commercial State Bank, or First Nebraska Bank (Valley).
  • Tod reminded those interested in serving as a member of the scholarship committee to let him know in the near future.
  • Our Salvation Army Bell ringing efforts brought in over $600 per day last week!  Great job everyone!
  • So what it’s cold!  The Rotary Scholarship Golf Outing is June 17th.  It will be here in no time at all!
Presentation:  Rita introduced Patsy Schmidt of the Elkhorn Historical Society.  Patsy is a lifelong resident of Elkhorn and shared a very informative and entertaining presentation of the history of Elkhorn.  We all enjoyed the old pictures and Patsy’s wealth of historical knowledge of all things Elkhorn.  The Elkhorn Historical Society’s 2019 calendars are on sale NOW!  Check their website for more details:  http://www.elkhornhistory.org/calendar/calendar.htm
Next Week’s Speaker: TBA.  Speaker’s for 12/13 and 12/20 are needed.  Please let Neil know if you can get someone lined up.
Drawing Winner:  Mike Ough won while simultaneously holding the bucket.  An internal investigation is to be conducted.
