WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello, Rotarians!
This week on Wednesday, May 13th, will be our first opportunity to assist in the food distribution in Valley.  How exciting that we are able to participate and to provide ground beef for the recipients.

Last week, our meeting was cut short due to the Zoom 45 minute limitation.  Tod is in the process of getting our club set up with the District provided one year subscription so we won’t have that problem again.  Thank you, Tod!

Because our meeting was cut short, we were not able to finish going through the club goals for the 2020-2021 club year.  We will finish these at the meeting this week.  We need to have those entered in ClubRunner before Jim can submit the grant application for the memorial for Ron.

Speaking of the memorial for Ron, Gail has been communicating with the bicycle manufacturer about the cost.  At this week’s meeting, we will also be discussing wording on the bicycle.

Stay safe, Everyone!

Judy

Secretary Report
Here are the minutes from last week's meeting....
  • ZOOM meeting was conducted on May 7th, with nine members participating
  • Judy reviewed the agenda, Dave provided the opening prayer and Tod led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Treasurer's Report ... unchanged (approximately $6,673.00)
  • District 5650 announced that a $15/member rebate for membership fees will be provided.  Club dues are still to be submitted according to the established schedule (June 1st for WDC Rotary)
  • District's Annual Conference will be May 19th ... Roger has confirmed that he is registered as our club's delegate
  • Scholarships:  Tod reported that the Elkhorn Foundation is still committed to having it's scholarship breakfasts.  WDC Rotary may need to have our recognition breakfast via ZOOM, if necessary
  • Bary provided information regarding graduation options for this year (June, July or August).  Seniors finish their last day of "classes" on Tuesday, May 12th.
  • COPE Fundraiser:  Jim submitted an email report, indicating that the COPE Beef project has received $1,550 from our members, to be combined with District 5650's $1,000 matching grant.   The first distribution will occur next Wednesday (May 13th) from 4:30 to 5:30 at DC West.    Volunteers are needed (masks and gloves are required).
  • OPD Bike Fundraiser:  Gail provided an update regarding the Bike Project.  A price quote of approximately $1,600 has been received from the manufacturer "Volcanic".  A $1,000 grant has been received from District ... to be received after WDC Rotary submits it's 2020-21 goals information and the actual grant application (May 31st deadline).  A special inscription "In Memory of Ron Mortensen - WDC Rotary" will be placed on the bike (to be verified after a purchase decision is made).
  • Judy briefly discussed other Rotary initiatives (Kids Against Hunger, Club Presidents Fight Against Polio).
  • Golf Outing:  Mike provided an update regarding our golf outing.  The Pines has Monday openings in July and the first two weeks of August, if we want to shift the date of our annual outing.  They have 48 carts available so we could field 12 teams (last year we had 8 teams).  Club members were encouraged to press forward with obtaining hole sponsors ($100 each).
  • Next ZOOM meeting will be Thursday, May 14th at 11:30 AM.  Everyone is encouraged to join the group.  A separate "invite"  email will be sent.
