Welcome to 2023 ... the new year offers renewed hope for all sorts of things ... good health, world peace, a better economy, etc. As Rotarians, we can continue to serve those in our community that are not in a position to progress on their own. Whether that be extra food from the DC West food bank or COPE, rent/utility assistance or just a phone call to check on our neighbor, we can all do our part to help others that are less fortunate than we are. Rotary has taken on a renewed focus as a world-wide leader in helping the people of Ukraine in its battle for survival as a nation. In order for us to continue to do our part, we need to expand our membership and be a more visible organization in the community.
Thanks to Neil for his 1940's videos about the blizzard of '49 ... it showed that community involvement and cooperation has always been a part of the Nebraska spirit (even if Roger thinks that school shouldn't be called-off unless we get at least a foot of snow!).
This week (tomorrow) we will again meet at 12:00 noon at our new location, the EPS Foundation building. We hope to have a representative from the Foundation provide an update on the scholarship selection process and to answer any questions we may have. We will also continue to address our plan for a "Get to Know Rotary" event. I have prepared a draft copy, for review and approval, of a proposed letter than we can use as an invitation to a future meeting ... the intent is to gain new members and grow our club.
