PRESIDENT JUDY'S REPORT

Happy Advent season, Rotarians!  Soon it will be Hanukkah—December 22nd to December 30th this year.  Christmas falls shortly after Hanukkah starts.   I just learned this year that the reason for Hanukkah is to celebrate the rededication of the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem when the Jews were returning from exile.  The rebuilding of the Temple is described in the Bible books of Ezra and Nehemiah.

Our District Newsletter was emailed this past week.  An upcoming event that sounds like fun is Red Oak Club’s 100th year anniversary celebration on New Year’s Eve called “Roaring 20’s.”  The event will include dinner, dancing, an auction and a poker tournament.

See you Thursday!

Neil introduced Jessica Kolterman of Lincoln Premium Poultry.  Jessica has returned to visit our club to give us the latest update on the Costco chicken plant, now open in Fremont.  Some of the numbers:
  • There are 520 new chicken barns at area farms now supplying the plant
  • Costco invested $450 Million and area farmers $350 Million making this one of the largest production investments in Nebraska's history.
  • The plant has created 700 new jobs
  • Starting wages for production workers in $15 per hour and the company offers a full line of benefits.
  • At full capacity, the plant will produce 2 million chickens per day supplying about 40% of all of Costco's chicken needs.
