Greetings, Rotarians! I hope your Memorial Day weekend was enjoyable. There was a great program on NET last night where they interviewed veterans from various wars and conflicts about their experiences being deployed.
Last week, I was feeling very sad about the pandemic and how much I miss seeing friends and family and being able to be physically close to them. When I shared those feelings with a friend, she said she is feeling the same way. However, she said something that made me stop and think. She said, “Remember….we stay apart so the next time we get together no one is missing.” That statement totally changed my perspective and helped me realize that much of what we are doing is not to protect ourselves but to protect those around us.
I am so grateful for the technology that allows us to continue to get together and see each other even if we can’t physically be in the same room. Looking forward to seeing all of you on Thursday!
ZOOM meeting was conducted on May 21st (11:30 AM), with 10 members participating
President Judy reviewed the Agenda and topics of discussion for the day. District Conference will be the end of July
Opening Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tod: Continued prayers of hope and healing were expressed for all those suffering from COVID-19, particularly the residents and staff of the Elkhorn Care Center. A special Memorial Day prayer of observance included thanks for all those that have served our country during it's storied history
Treasurer's Report: Regular account balance: $4,576.34. Checks were written for the COPE Beef project ($924), ClubRunner fees and a payment for our morning donuts (seems like forever since we've had donuts together!)
Membership: No change. Yearly dues ($220) are to be sent to the club's mailbox: WDC Rotary, P.O. Box 265, Elkhorn NE 68022. Jim T will assist Rita by mailing / emailing an invoice to each member. Dues are payable during the month of June
Scholarship Breakfast: No change - further discussion will occur when Common Ground opens up our meeting room
COPE Beef Grant: Jim reported that he had received an additional $500. The next DC West distribution will be June 10th
Bike Grant: Jim has formally submitted the grant request for $1,000 matching funds and Gail has completed all preliminary coordination with the bike manufacturer. WDC Rotary will need to raise the matching $1,000 as soon as the grant is approved. The bike will include the inscription "In Memory of Ron Mortensen - WDC Rotary" (to include the Rotary logo)
District 5650 Annual Meeting: Roger provided a summary of District's annual meeting (ZOOM) , to include the President's Elect for 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23. The district has $60,000 in reserve and financial rebates are being provided to each club ($15/member). District 5650 is the Number 1 zone district for membership growth (49 new members) ... total of 1,942 current members. In-person National and Rotary International meetings have been cancelled (Zoom only)
Golf Outing: Mike provided an update regarding golf outing options ... two teams are currently signed up and a quick head-count indicated that we should be able to get 10-12 teams, hopefully more. The EPS Foundation outing has been rescheduled to July 6th so we need to avoid that date when we reschedule our outing. Members need to contact Mike and get teams and hole sponsors ($100) committed as soon as possible.
