Greetings Rotarians and Friends of Rotary!  

Today is the last edition of my President's weekly newsletter comments. Starting July 1, Jim Tomanek takes over as our new club President. A special thanks to everyone for your support over the past three years.

This week, Dick Kruger will be our speaker and will show photos about his cross-country trek on the original Route 66 highway.  In the upcoming weeks, we will have presentations from Jerry Egermier (Africa Safaris), FBI Special Agent Eugene Kowel, Roger Breed (Cruise in France and Spain), Rita Kleeman (Alternative Investments) and hopefully Mark Wortman (Youth Trip to Italy, France and Spain).  Volunteers are needed to help with coordinating our noon lunches.

On July 17th, we will have our 25th Annual WDC Rotary Scholarship Golf Outing. Please continue to support this event ... it's the most significant way that we can fund our four $1,500 scholarships.

It's been an interesting and challenging past three years ... it seems like just yesterday that we were trying to navigate COVID-19, acclimate to ZOOM and adjust to all of the restrictions that went with it. Thankfully, our club held together and even got stronger.  I'm proud of the fact that we have been able to grow our club when many others have been losing members. I'm even more proud of the increased role that we have taken in the community, particularly our involvement with the DC West Food Pantry and COPE, our donation of the OPD bike and the new projector system for Elkhorn Common Ground. Please keep up this good work!

Along with these activities, our transition to noon meetings at the Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation facility has been a major change in the way we meet. Hopefully this will ultimately prove to be beneficial, especially if we can continue to grow our membership and welcome more guests on a regular basis.

Finally, I want to announce that I have accepted a nomination to be the new Assistant District Governor for Area 10. It's a three- year commitment, so I hope that I'm up to the challenge. I'm looking forward to visiting other clubs and learning more about how they operate and hopefully gain some insight that will help Western Douglas County Rotary.
