President's Message
Greetings Rotarians ...

I hope that everyone is enjoying this great fall weather and is able to get out and enjoy the fresh air! Tomorrow is another DC West Food Basket Drive at the DC West school.  Volunteers are needed (4:30 - 5:30) ... please show up 10-15 minutes early.  Any extra food will be taken to COPE after the food drive is complete.  Our guest speaker this week will be our District Governor, Roxy Orr ... it would be great if we could have a good in-person turn-out, if possible.  I'll be sending out a Zoom link tomorrow so everyone will have either option.

Tod

Minutes from December 3rd meeting ...
  • We were fortunate to get back to our regular in-person meeting again on December 3rd, including 8 members in-person, 3 members on Zoom, plus our regular guest, Larry Johansen.
  • Rita updated our financial status ... $5,484.62 balance ($800.00 donation to COPE). Our next Rotary dues will be paid in January ($900.00).
  • Western Douglas County Christmas Food Basket drive will be December 17, 18 and 19.  Volunteers are needed each day.  The West "O" Chamber is coordinating the operation and Jim Tomanek is coordinating for our Rotary club.
  • COPE Christmas toys and donations will be distributed this week (December 12th) ... please get your donation to Jim at Rotary on Thursday or mail your check to him at their COPE address (P.O. Box 177, Elkhorn).
  • The highlight of our pre-speaker business meeting was the awarding of a Paul Harris Fellow pin and certificate to Neil.  We all questioned why it took so long since he's been a Charter Member of WDC Rotary for 30+ years!  Congrats Neil!
Our guest speakers were Colleen Fink and Kasey Heaton, representing the 41st U.S. Senior Open, to be played at the Omaha Country Club July 5-11th.  Colleen and Kasey discussed the history of the U.S. Senior Open, highlighting some of the past winners and this year's scheduled activities.  Omaha was the site of the 2013 Senior Open, which still holds the attendance record of over 100,000 fans.  Over 1,800 volunteers are involved, plus 31 vendors, 15 operational trailers, 10 administrative office trailers and over 2 miles of crowd-control fencing.  The U.S. Senior Open is expected to contribute over $21 million to the local economy.  There will be over 20 hours of TV coverage, in 100 countries, worldwide.  Fourteen different Volunteer Committees are available for anyone who is interested ... contact Colleen directly at CFink@USGA.org. Ticket options are also available on their website, www.ussenioropen.com or at the USGA's website at 2021ussenioropen@usga.org
