President's Message

Hello Fellow Rotarians,

Thank you, Tod, for providing Jimmy John’s lunch last week.

If you missed the meeting last week, you missed out on one of the best speakers we have had at Rotary. Our speaker was Alma Knoll, Alma told her life story about leaving Croatia/Serbia to come to the United States. What a heart wrenching story of a war-torn country and how devastating it was on her and her family. Alma had a great final message, “do not take for granted the freedoms we have in America, our way of life is not normal in the rest of the world”. Thank you, Larry Bock, for bringing Alma to Rotary!

Our speaker for this week is provided by Dan Palmquist, Jeff Kloster will tell his story along with slides about his experience surviving a plane crash.

Next Wednesday, September 13th is the monthly food pantry at the DC West Elementary School. We will be handing out 3lb. packages of ground beef along with the usual boxes of non-perishables and produce from 3:45 to 5:00PM.

September 21st is the date of our Rotary social outing at Diane and Harold Johnson’s home, this includes spouses. We will have a signup sheet going around at the next two meetings, please sign up or contact Diane (402-681-0083) to RSVP.
We will not have a lunch meeting on September 21st.

Registration is now open for the Rotary District 5650 Conference you can register online on the Rotary District 5650 website.

We had to make an adjustment in our club’s Golden Wheel Award recipient. Cyndi Borden is now the person our club has submitted for the award. Cyndi, a retired lawyer, is the Director of Kings Garden in King Lake, Valley. She has spent countless hours coordinating rebuilding homes in the Valley/Waterloo area after the 2019 floods. Cyndi also serves on the Douglas County Long Term Recovery Group Board of Directors and facilitates a “kids camp” for kids out of school during the summer. I hope to have Cyndi speak at one of our lunch meetings in the future to explain in more detail all she does for our community.

Don’t know what it will be yet, but lunch will be provided this Thursday.

WE need your help scheduling some lunch speakers, please let me know if you have someone that can speak on any of the following open dates, thanks.
Future Speaker Schedule:
Sept. 7th,  Jeff Kloster – plane crash survivor
Sept. 14th – open
Sept. 21st – no lunch meeting couple dinner at Diane Johnson’s home
Sept. 28th – open
Oct. 5th – open
Oct. 12th – open

Have a great week and see you Thursday.
