For those of you who rely on the Bulletin, you might have been surprised that our speaker was originally scheduled for August 17, but graciously agreed to change his date to August 3rd because of Erin Hartman RN, CPR speaker's cancellation. Our Erin accepted the August 17th slot.
Treasurer Rita reported a check book balance of $11,280.64. Rita also put in a plug for her daughter's place of employment which is SIGNEX in Elkhorn. We had two visiting Rotarians at the meeting, Larry Johansen from Downtown and Erick Stueckrath from Suburban. (Why does my spellcheck function "kick in" whenever I type Eric's name)
Bary Habrock, Superintendent of Elkhorn Public Schools, was welcomed as our newest club member. Bary gave a short biographical speech, including his attendance at Utica Nebraska Public School. He also stated that his Grandmother was also a student there and was acquainted with Mike Ough during her student days when he was a school administrator in the area. (We won't run out of zingers with Bary and Roger working in tandem.)
LUNCH BUNCH - Jim reported the lunch bunch will be meeting on August 9th at Shevy's with Trevor Hudson, new President of WDCCC, as speaker.
CLASSIFICATION TALKS - Shortly, Duane will be calling on the newer members for Rotary Classification/Vocational talks at the meeting, with fines assessed for those going over 3 minutes.
SPEAKER OF THE DAY - Our speaker of the day was Mike Benach with Cross Recycling and Cross Training. This business is not for profit and provides for recycling of any electronic/electric device that has, in his words, a plug attached. Such items included are computers, monitors, televisions (no CRT models), refrigerators, washers, furnaces air conditioners, etc. The are located on 50 30 North 72nd Street and serve both consumers and businesses. The training aspects of the business involve utilizing and educating employees with low skills to training them to work on recycled devices which will then be available for sale. A large part of their business is the processing, repair and recycling of computers and he assures that they certify that device memories and hard drivers are process to remove ALL data from previous use. The Cross Training Center motto is CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, VOCATIONAL SKILLS AND JOB EXPERIENCE FOR DISADVANTAGED AND UNDER EDUCATED YOUTH AND ADULTS.
Kyle Tredinnik is a social studies and geography teacher at Omaha Public Schools, Zoo Academy. He was selected as a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow with National Geographic Education and Lindbald Expeditions and recently returned from a circumnavigation of Iceland as a part of the fellowship program.
