Stories
Our meeting was opened by our President Roger Breed.  Jim Tomanek was called to give the invocations and he did a very nice job, in part because he brings a lot of speakers and new members and therefore gets lots of practice.  Rita gave our treasurer's report once again and reported that there was approximately $9,392.86.  (I thought it was $9,392.87 but I hesitate to quibble)  Secretary (not for life) Ron reported that the Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army would be at Family Fare (formerly No-Frills, but apparently they added some Frills to upgrade the store name) on three days, November 23, 24, and 25.  Earlier references to Walmart and how DAMN COLD IT GETS THERE FOR BELL RINGERS was strictly rhetorical.

Jasmine and Rex brought a box of Krispy Kreme donuts to the meeting, thank you.  Of course, it was Rex's birthday on Friday the 25th but we are not sure if the donuts have anything to do with his birthday.

The Dive Night at Parkers Smokehouse in Ashland was reviewed and 6 PM on October 9 was reaffirmed as the approximate start time.  Diane Johnson is receiving reservations up to the club meeting on October 8th, however, if you chose not to make reservations and show up anyway, they might let you sit with the group.

Dr. Dan Schoes, Chief Administrator was our speaker for the day.  It was reported by somebody that he was from Paullina, Iowa.  (Paullina is located in NW Iowa, somewhere in the vicinity of Spencer).  Our previous bulletin has a detailed biography of Dan, but he has had considerable experience in public school administration, most recently Principal at Yutan, Nebraska public schools prior to promotion to Chief Administrator at ESU 3.

Dan briefed us on his travels, in particular on a US Navy Air Craft Carrier for a couple of days and on the whereabouts and accomplishments of his several adult children and his wife works as a Child Psychologist at Boys Town.  Dan had a handout on ESU3 detailing the many services they provide to 18 school districts in a 4 county area.  If you want a copy of the handout, contact the club secretary.  An interesting area of his talk to our club was the work with drones that are used as educational tools and peeping into faculty lounges at various schools.  Seriously, the students at the 18 school districts are taught to program the drones, which certainly are a high interest, high motivation educational program.

ViewPointe Vision optical is going to have a large grand re-opening sale. There will be 30-40% off complete pairs of eye glasses and 30% off non-prescription sunglasses. They will also receive 50% off a second pair.  That is better savings than most insurance plans.  It runs October 1st from 2-6pm and October 2nd from 2-4pm. On October 2nd we will also have a bounce house and Kona Ice for the kiddos.
Ariann Brown, ViewPointe Vision
