Feb. 2 Meeting Notes

Lunch Bunch is scheduled for tomorrow, Feb. 8th at Shevy's with guest speaker Eric Bird from Eat Fit Go.

Thank you to Martie Cordaro of the Omaha Storm Chasers for speaking with us on Thursday, Feb. 2. Martie Cordaro is president and general manager for the Omaha Storm Chasers, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Cordaro, entering his 19th season in Minor League Baseball, has been with Omaha since 2007. He showed us his bling from the KC Royals 2015 World Series win.

The Omaha Storm Chasers are entering their 7th season at Werner Park and have welcomed 2.7 million fans to the park from 2011-2016. Along with baseball games, Werner Park hosts many special events throughout the year. The organization focuses heavily on community involvement and hosts events such as Fireworks Fridays, Family Sundays, Bark at the Park at $.25 hot dog days.

The season starts April 11th - come out to a game!

GREAT PLAINS COLON CANCER TASK FORCE

ROLLIN to COLON

Shown to the Left is the front of Ron Mortensen's T-shirt from last years Great Plains Rollin to Colon fund raising event which was a bicycle ride from Valley, Nebraska to Colon, Nebraska (located North of Wahoo). (Of course, there isn't room for the whole shirt in the picture because of obvious reasons.)

Another great event of the Task Force is the Boxer 500: The Boxer 500 is a 5K run/walk, 1M walk and kid’s event to raise awareness and for colorectal cancer. Participants are encouraged to draw attention to their bottoms and colorectal cancer by participating in their boxer underwear. Form a team and wear matching boxers! The event is all-ages, so we do ask that you dress appropriately. Boxers are completely optional! Participants are allowed to run for fun or for competition! The 5K route is certified and is the Road Runners Club of America State 5K Championship for Nebraska. Strollers are welcome on the route, but we ask that they line up behind the runners. Sorry no pets.
