Just a reminder that the Rotary Lunch Bunch will be meeting next Wednesday, September 23rd at Noon at Sam & Louie's Pizza in Elkhorn. Our speaker will be Jill Muegge sharing pictures and stories about her recent two week trip to Viet Nam.
Mark your calendars for our annual Rotary Salvation Army bell ringing. This year we will need volunteers for one hour increments from 10:00AM to 8:00PM on the days of November 23rd, 24th, and 25th. We will be back at the Family Fare Store on 204th & Pacific Street. Sign-up sheets will be out around the 1st of November.
Our speaker of the day was Ethan Copple, who recently received the award for the American Legion 2015 National Eagle Scout of the Year. He had some audio/visual presentations to illustrate and tell us about his scouting career and also his Eagle Scout projects in Elkhorn. Of special interest was his work done to create Korean War and Viet Nam War memorials at Prospect Hill Cemetary. Ethan's parents Bob and Kim Copple were in attendance and have a great deal to be proud of Ethan. Ethan's troop is 357 headquartered at Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church.
Did I hear that Mike Ough was an Eagle Scout? Are there any other former Eagle Scouts?
Other activities at the meeting included a discussion of a potential attendee at the Rotary Leadership Institute from our club. Jim reported on the Sep 9 lunch bunch (see his story elsewhere in the bulletin). Jim also mentioned the next lunch bunch at Sam & Louie's. Rita mentioned a potential dive location that provides "Test Tickles" for interested customers. Diane volunteered to explore arrangements for a Dive, perhaps at Rita's suggested Location.
Neil's long list of future programs is shrinking. Our speaker for this coming thursday the 17th will be our own Jill Muegge who will talk about her two week sojourn to Viet Nam. Jill's talk was arranged by Neil Kirby. On September 24th, Dan Schnoes from ESU3 will speak to us, arranged by Mike Ough, of course. Last on the list of speakers on the current list is Dr. Nancy Shirley, Associate Professor of Community Health Nursing at Creighton University. Nancy, featured in the adjacent picture hs been making mission trips for the last 30 years to the Dominican Republic.
The Rotary Lunch Bunch met on September 9th at Shevy’s in downtown Elkhorn. There were 12 people in attendance including Rebecca Vermuele. Rebecca is interested in joining Rotary, she is an agent for Farmers Insurance and a guest of Judy Ackland. Michaela Williams was our guest speaker, Michaela is co-owner and President of Care Consultants for the Aging. She took over the business that her Mother started, after her Mother’s death her Father began having the early symptoms of dementia, so Michaela and her siblings began recording every service and agency they used to help care their Father. Michaela provided everyone at the meeting with a complimentary handbook they authored with contacts, services and instructions on how to care for an elderly person. Our next Lunch Bunch meeting will be on September 23rd at Noon at Sam & Louie’s Pizza in Elkhorn, our fellow Rotarian Jill Muegge will be showing pictures and telling us about her recent two week trip to Viet Nam.
