Our speaker of the Day was Hannah Paczkowski, Recruiting/Marketing Coordinator, TeamMates Mentoring Program. Hannah was introduced by Dan Palmquist. Hannah wrote such an informative note to me after the meeting that I decided to use that note as my report on the speaker of the day.
Thank you so much for your interest in the TeamMates Mentoring Program. I had a great time visiting with you all at the Rotary Breakfast this morning.
Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 in an effort to provide support and encouragement to school aged youth. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, youth meet one hour per week with a caring adult who serves as a mentor. Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person. Mentors give youth a sense of hope, purpose and vision. The TeamMates Mentoring Program currently provides a mentor for over 7,000 youth across Nebraska and Iowa, as well as in San Diego, California.

Our Christmas Party is scheduled for 6 PM at The Hilton Garden Inn at Village Pointe. Our party will include a social period at the beginning, dinner and a give exchange that is crazy. Each person who desires to participate in the exchange must bring a gift of about $10 value approximately or something fun. Cost of meal is $28 per person, payable before or at the event. We would like to have the final attendance count by our club meeting on December 10th.
President Roger opened the meeting with a request for invocation by Jim Tomanek followed by the pledge of allegiance. Treasurer Rita reported that our check book balance was $8,698.04. (Prior to start of the meeting, Rita provided Ron a check made out to Rotary International Foundation for our annual donation to that fund) Diane announced that the Christmas Party sign up sheet was being circulated. (reminder, the party is Sunday evening, December 13th).

Jim also mentioned the Thank You letter for last year's donation to the Food Basket drive and Gail moved that we increased the donation for this year to $750. The motion was seconded and approved
The meeting concluded with Rita winning a white ball in the drawing. Note to the membership: There are only 3 balls left in the bag so you may want to buy extra tickets next time.
Western Douglas County Food Basket Project will be December 17th, 18th & 19th. We will need volunteers to help collect canned goods from schools on Thursday morning at 9:00AM. Volunteers on Friday morning at Bethany Church at 9:00AM to sort food and pack baskets. Then on Saturday beginning at 9:00AM we need volunteers to help deliver baskets to the families.
