WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
I hope everyone is faring well through these interesting times we are in.  It’s been great to connect with some of you each week during our Zoom meetings.  If you are having problems connecting, please reach out to me.

As you can see in the minutes from last week’s meeting, you have all been very generous.  We have more than matched the special grant funds we received and will be able to purchase more food for those who need it.  Great job!

Keep working on those hole sponsors for the golf outing.  As you know, this is our fund-raising mechanism to provide the scholarships to the high school seniors.

John Germ, past International President and current head of the Polio Plus efforts for the Rotary Foundation will be speaking at the Omaha West Rotary virtual meeting this Friday, May 8th at noon.  If you didn’t receive the email from Mick McKinley it is being included in this bulletin below.

Hope to see all of you on Thursday.
Judy

Secretary Report
Minutes from last meeting compliments of Tod...
  • ZOOM video-conference meeting of April 30th was held with 10 members participating.
  • Dave offered up a prayer of the day, thanking our health-care workers and those that are providing essential services
  • Tod led us in the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Judy discussed the Agenda and District-wide initiatives
  • Rita provided the following budget information:
    • Bank Balance was $4,403.19 plus $.040 interest (without matching grant money and club donations)
    • COPE Food (hamburger) Project:  Matching Grant of $1,000.00 has been received from District 5650.  Donations of $1,250.00 have been received from club members.  Additional pledges / checks are expected.  Jim indicated that the actual distribution of food will occur on May 13th, at DC West, from 4:30 to 5:30.  Volunteers are encouraged to participate, if possible (masks, gloves and social distancing will be required) ... reminder email will be sent
  • Scholarships:  Tod provided a brief update.  EPS Foundation has submitted their invoice for the two Elkhorn scholarships ($3,000).  Invoice will not be paid until after our golf outing (maybe as late as July 1st).
  • Rotary Bike Project:  Gail shared information from OPD regarding the possible purchase of a special bike for use by their bike patrol.  Costs could exceed $1,500 for one bike ... to be further evaluated.  In order to make sure that we can proceed with obtaining a matching grant, a request for $1,000 from District 5650 will be submitted (deadline is the end of May).  The club will be responsible for raising the remaining funds.  The bike will be presented as a memorial to Ron Mortensen.
  • Golf Outing:  The Pines has indicated that they will be evaluating all golf outings scheduled for June.  Based on State-of-Nebraska and local guidelines, they will decide whether or not our June 15th date can remain, as scheduled.  Everyone is still encouraged to obtain "hole" sponsors, regardless of when the outing may occur.  This is critical to our budget.
  • District 5650 Annual Conference (via "ZOOM"):  Roger is our club's designated delegate ... Tod will be available as a back-up.
  • Next meeting will be at 11:30 AM on May 7th.  Tod will send out an email the first of the week, followed by a reminder on Wednesday.  Save your email for easy reference so that you can join us from wherever you are!
