PRESIDENT JUDY

Another snowy Monday in Nebraska.  I fear I am getting a bit tired of winter—how about the rest of you Rotarians?

This week, the Omaha Morning Club will be visiting us again.  We’ll start the meeting about ten minutes later than usual to give everyone some extra time to visit and eat breakfast.  Then we’ll have a shorter meeting so we can still allow plenty of time for our speaker.

I’m hoping several of you will be attending the District Conference July 26-27.  Here is the website to register:  https://www.crsadmin.com/EventPortal/Registrations/PublicFill/EventPublicFill.aspx?evtid=1d37b30b-b7ee-40f6-9667-0d1dbaed2c56.  This page also has the link for hotel information.  If you register before March 31st, the registration fee is $100.  After March 31st, it increases to $140.  There are a lot of fun and educational events planned for the conference “Shape Your Future.”  Plus, Nebraska City offers many fun and interesting things to do.

See everyone Thursday!

FEB 14 PROGRAM - NATIONAL GUARD
Our speakers this week are Staff Sergeant John Weinmaster and Master Sergeant Maren Stewart with the Nebraska National Guard.

John join the Nebraska National Guard 9 years ago after graduating from Kimball High and Western Nebraska Community College in 2014. In 2017, he was offered a full time position instructing Basic Leadership Course and Motor-Operator Instructor Course out at Camp Ashland. In his current position as a recruiter, he has a unique opportunity to reach out to the community and share his experiences while assisting others as they begin their careers, part-time or full-time, in the National Guard. John lives in Omaha with my girlfriend Heather and their 2 year old daughter Zoey.

Master Sergeant Maren Stewart has served 17 years in the Nebraska Army National Guard.  She began her career as a Blackhawk mechanic, recruited in Lincoln for 7 years, worked as the state's marketing director and was
elected as the Army National Guard National Marketing Chair in 2014, performed as her Battalion's operations coordinator, and now manages the greater Omaha area's Army National Guard recruiting team.  She deployed on
a peacekeeping mission to Kosovo from 2003 -2004 with the 24th Medevac Air Ambulance unit out of Lincoln.  She earned a Bachelor's of Science in Geography from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2012, and is slowly chipping away at her Master's Degree.  She currently lives in Gretna with her 9 year old daughter, Siri, and their mini-aussie, Lady.

Their presentation will review the mission of the Nebraska Army National Guard, and our overall role in the Department of Defense.  Additionally, the units are aligned in the state, the service they provide to the community
through these units, and what benefits the Soldiers earn for their service.
