Join Rotary 14 as we recognize University of Nebraska-Lincoln Volleyball Coach John Cook as the Nebraskan of the Year on Tuesday October 30, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
The Rotary #14 Nebraskan of the Year award was established to honor and recognize the accomplishments of a Nebraskan who has distinguished himself or herself through service to others in keeping with ideals of Rotary International. The 2018 Nebraskan of the Year is Coach John Cook.
Each year one honoree from a statewide field of nominees is selected based on honesty, integrity and concern for others; service in charitable and civic causes and; leadership and significant accomplishments in his/her profession or volunteer activities.
Previous winners of the Nebraskan of the Year Award include business leader Anthony Messineo, Jr., Educator Dr. Martin Massengale, businessman and philanthropist Duane Acklie, former U. S. Congressman and Husker Coach and Athletic Director Dr. Tom Osborne, U. S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, Civil Rights Leader Leola Bullock and former Nebraska Governor Charles Thone.
The 2018 event will be held October 30, 2018 at Embassy Suites in Lincoln. Doors open at 11:30 am and the program will conclude by 1:00 pm.

Northwest Rotary invites Rotarians, family members and friends to attend a Movie Night for fun, fellowship and raising funds for PolioPlus. Movie Night will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. There will be a potluck dinner at 5:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Fried chicken will be provided and attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. The movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), will start at 6:30 p.m. after dinner. This fellowship event will be held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 202 South 20th Street, in Omaha. There is a suggested $20 free will offering for PolioPlus. We will need reservations for planning. Please email Vickie Backman at nwrotary@cox.net for a reservation. A flyer is attached. Omaha West Rotary is having a Bloody Mary Jazz Fest on Nov 4th from 3-6pm. We would love to have Rotarians and Bloody Mary lovers attend. We have opportunities for bars to show off their bloody mary’s, sponsorships and ticket sales. The details can be found at .

Mark your calendars for Tuesday morning, November 13th. Our club will join the Morning Rotary Club for their Tuesday morning meeting at Happy Hollow CC at 7:00am. WE WILL NOT HAVE OUR MEETING ON 11/15 because of this special event.
In support of World Polio Day, a special “Dive Dinner Party” on the evening of Friday, October 19th at 6:00PM has been planned at The Mark. A suggested $20 donation per couple ($10 singles) in addition to dinner costs will go the Rotary Polio Fund on behalf of our club.
The West O Chamber of Commerce has put together the first annual Wine Walk in Olde Towne Elkhorn on Thursday, October 18th 5PM-8PM . For the low price of just $15, participants will enjoy a sampling of various wines while they stroll along visiting the shops in downtown Elkhorn AND the proceeds will all go to COPE! What’s not to like about this?? The forecast for Thursday, as of this writing, is for SUNNY skies and 61 degrees!
Jeanne plugged a couple of events that may be of interest to club members.
Support the Girls is a fundraiser to help breast cancer patients in the Elkhorn area. It takes place in Downtown Elkhorn on Sunday October 14th.

Presentation: Judy introduced Julie O’Hara, our District Governor for 2018-19. Julie hails from Shenandoah. Along with her commitment to Rotary, Julie is a very active member of her community while also being a busy mom, farm wife and real estate professional. Julie expressed her passion for Rotary very effectively and shared her gratefulness to her family for their support of her governorship duties.
Next meeting speaker (10/18): We will welcome back our prodigal daughter, Jill Muegge, who will share details of her recent trip to Cuba.
Our Rotary Club is scheduled to ring the Salvation Army Red Kettle bells at Family Fare grocery store on 204th & Pacific Street, November 19th, 20th, and 21st. I will have a sign up schedule to pass around at our meetings beginning November 1st.
