THURSDAY SPEAKER: SPORTS ARCHITECTURE - Dave Ciavarella DLR
PREZ MIKE'S NOTES
Our Club has been using ClubRunner for a couple of years and the annual renewal (for June 1, 2018 - May 31, 2019) will cost us $ 419.40. So, we should discuss it's value to us at this Thursday's

morning meeting.
A few thoughts about ClubRunner...
  • Some clubs don't have ClubRunner, they do admin on Rotary.org site.
  • We got by without ClubRunner, using other means for newsletter
  • We also didn't have a newsletter/bulletin for most years of the club.
  • Suspect a significant number of members don't read the bulletin or go to web site.

SECRETARY DAN'S REPORT
WDC Rotary Club
Meeting Minutes 4/5/18
We were led in prayer and pledge by Dr. Roger Breed
We had 24 members present and welcomed 13 visitors.
Treasurers report:  Removed from agenda, as well as Secretary’s’ report, collection of fines and split the pot drawing, in deference to our special guests.
Announcements:  Next Lunch Bunch meeting will be April 12th at Noon at Shevy’s
Other announcements/discussion:
  • The Rotary Golf Outing, which provides the funding for the scholarships, is set for July 9th at The Pines.Put together your fearsome foursome!
  • There will be 8 students from Elkhorn Public Schools and 1 student from DC West Schools attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy this weekend.
Today’s Presentation:
Our scholarship breakfast festivities were again superbly hosted by Tod Ringenberg, MC extraordinaire.  Tod introduced each of the scholarship winners, their parents, their guidance counselors, and their Principals.  It is worthy of note that all parents were in attendance and all school personnel as well.   It is a true testament to the quality of both the students that have been honored, as well as the outstanding support that they have received, both from their schools, and from their respective families.
The Associate Superintendent of EPS, Dr. Cindy Gray, served as the keynote speaker and provided the students with a positive message to continue their caring attitudes that they show to each other as they enter the next stages of young adulthood.  (See photos below)
Another outstanding job Rotarians!  Great candidates were selected, and a great event to honor them!
Next week’s speaker:   Dave Ciavarella, DLR - Topic will be SPORTS ARCHITECTURE.
Finally:  Gail DID NOT WIN THIS WEEK!

WESTERN DOUGLAS COUNTY ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS FOR 2018

The Western Douglas County Rotary Club presented their 2018 scholarships to three area graduates at their annual recognition breakfast, held on April 5th at Elkhorn’s Common Ground Community Center. The scholarship recipients and their parents were joined by school administrators, counselors and members of the Rotary club.

Each year, the Western Douglas County Rotary sponsors three $1,500 scholarships, awarded to area graduating seniors. This year’s scholarship winners were Christine Jacha – Elkhorn High, daughter of Stan and Tanya Jacha, Fadia Husseini – Elkhorn South, daughter of Ken Kroeger and Safaa Atassi, and Kelly McEvoy – DC West, daughter of Paul and Laurie McEvoy.

Each student was recognized for their academic and extra-curricular achievements, community involvement and volunteering activities. The students provided a brief summary of their college plans and discussed their career objectives.  Dr. Cindy Gray, Associate Superintendent of Schools for Elkhorn was the guest speaker for the event.

Rotary International is an organization dedicated to world peace through business and volunteer service, emphasizing global clean-water projects and the world-wide eradication of polio. Locally, the club supports various community activities such as the Western Douglas County Food Bank, COPE and the Salvation Army’s “Bell-Ringing”.  The club’s primary fund-raiser is its annual golf outing – this year’s event will be held on Monday, July 9th at the Pines Golf Course in Valley.
