Greetings Rotarians!

Thanks to Jim Tomanek for providing his COPE update briefing last week ... our relationship with COPE is an important one that we need to continue to develop and support. Their golf outing is May 7th and teams / sponsors are still needed. This week's speaker will be Guy Jukes of Jukes Ale Works. Next week (April 28th & 29th) Mike and I will be attending the Elkhorn Foundation's scholarship recognition events. Jim will represent our club at DC West's event on April 30th. We need a speaker for our May 29th meeting ... please help! In two weeks (May 6th), we will have our annual Scholarship Recognition event. We are planning an in-person, socially-distanced, simple event (coffee and donuts) for the students, their parents and their counselors. Please put this date on your calendar so that we can celebrate their achievements!

Meeting Minutes 4/15/21

Attendance: 9 (In-Person), plus 2 (Zoom) and 1 Guest (Larry Johansen)
Bank Balance: $4,243.25
District Grants: Discussion focused on acquiring a new overhead projector for our presentations. Dan and Tod will meet with Ed Pullen (CSS) to research some options.
DC West Food Basket Distribution ... thanks to those that helped with yesterday's event (April 14th)
Future Speakers: April 22nd (Guy Jukes - Jukes Ale Works), April 29th - OPEN, May 6th (WDC Rotary Scholarship Recognition Event)
Guest Speaker (Jim Tomanek): Jim provided an in-depth review of COPE and how it is supported by eleven area church "owners". COPE's area covers the Bennington, DC West and Elkhorn school districts and they partner with the Open Door Mission. In 2020, COPE served 397 families (455 households in 2019), to include 376 children. As the regional coordinating agency for Douglas County, COPE is administering $2.1 million in CARES funds. They provide rent and utilities financial support, food and clothing distribution and emergency help to families in need. They are currently looking for a larger facility so that they can expand their operation and area assistance. Please support their golf outing on May 7th.
