The June 18 meeting of our club will observe the 25th Anniversary of our club.  Charter members will be honored and the Club will be honored by our founding club, Omaha West Rotary Club.  Our first President Lyn Ramsey, Omaha West President Susan Thomas and Area Governor Madeline Madden plan to attend.. The District Governor Brian Moon and Rotarian Don Klein from Omaha West have been invited.  Don Klein was one of our founding Rotarians from Omaha West.  The program will consist of activities relating to our anniversary.

June 18 - Our Club will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary of its founding.  There will be several speakers to commemorate this event.

Our visiting Rotarian today was Ronald G. Bailey from Maaseik, Belgium  In the above photo Ron is presenting his Rotary Club banner to our President, Bob Worley.

 

Other business items include a discussion by Ron Mortensen recommending a test trial of Club Runner for the next year at a cost of $30 per month with the District 5650 reimbursing our club for the $195 set up fee charged by Club Runner.  Rex Moats moved to purchase Club Runner and the motion was seconded by Roger Breed.  The motion passed and the secretary will order the one year subscription.  Our club will be required to pay the $195 set up fee plus approximately $360 for advance payment of the monthly fee.

 

Jim Tomanek addressed our upcoming Golf Tournament at the Pines Country Club in Valley on July 13 th.  Jim handed out packages of tickets and recommended our club purchase their tickets and also to sign up foursomes, be $100 hole sponsors, obtain Flag Prizes/Donations.  Non playing members are requested to volunteer to help at the golf event.

Terry Weland, A 25 Year volunteer with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) was introduced by speaker

host, Ron Mortensen.  Terri is retired from First Data Corporation and a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He has type I diabetes and utilizes a Medtronic Insulin pump with a continuous blood sugar monitoring system.  Terry talked about various examples of individuals with diabetes and options for those patients to monitor and treat their condition.  A key phrase that Terry emphasized  is to recognize that Medicare needs to realize and respond to the fact that it is much less expensive to closely monitor blood sugar levels with new technologies an to treat those levels with the latest equipment that already covered by most insurance companies.  Inaccurate and infrequent monitoring of blood sugar levels leads to considerably more emergency room visits.  Terry left literature for folks who would be interested in volunteering to help JDRF fund raising functions.

 

WDC Club Members have received a couple of bulletins and the website has been updated for changing events.  This is a continuation of a trial run for the Club Runner software advocated by our District 5650 leaders.  There a few "ghost" phrases that show up on the bottom of the bulletin and I haven't been able to find what is causing it.  Help is on the way from Erin, the District executive so please be patient.  Everyone that has a working email account should be receiving the bulletin.  Suggestions for improvement are very, very welcome.  Additionally, if you have events or stories you would like to bring to the attention of the members, drop me an email.  Most of our stories should be Rotary or Elkhorn related but exceptions for major family events could be mentioned. I am still working on how to include photos when appropriate.
