SECRETARY NOTES FROM JULY 27 MEETNG
  • The July 27 meeting was called to order by President Mike and Dan Fitzpatrick gave the invocation and led us in the pledge of allegiance.
  • Treasurer Rita reported a check book balance of $10,875.23 and mentioned that all major obligations have been paid except for the Pines Golf Club.
  • In the Secretary's report, Ron mentioned the purchased of a VGA/HDMI adapter for our slide projector and thanked Duane for suggesting that new member, Curtiss Johnson, provide us with a short introductory speech (in other clubs, called a "Vocational Speech".  Ron also updated the speaker for August 10.
  • Prez Mike commented on the new A/V adapter provided by a member donor to provide a connection for newer notebook computers which lack a VGA connection.  The new adapter connects from old VGA cables to newer HDMI receptacles on computers.  Today's presentation required a HDMI connection to the timing was fortunate.
  • Jim Tomanek reported on the Lunch Bunch:  Next meeting will be August 10.
  • Prez Mike discussed the possibility of the club picking up the tab for the Lunch Bunch speaker, however the discussion was truncated when a generous member indicated that he would continue picking up the speaker's lunch tab as part of his service to the club.  Thanks Jim.
  • Prez Mike called for a brief officers meeting after the regular meeting.
  • Prez Mike asked us who the last US President was who didn't graduate from College?  Answer:  Harry S. Truman
  • Prez Mike also asked us how old the last Major Golf Tournament winner was?  Answer:  24 years old.
  • Revision to recent bulletin:  The speaker for August 10 will be Jill Muegge's friend, Kyle Trendinnik, Omaha School teacher who was recently in Iceland with a talk about that trip.
  • Mike Bunach from Cross Electronic Recycling and Cross Training will be our Rotary speaker on August 17th.  Mike was arranged by Judith Ackland.
  • Our speaker of the day, Mike Clark, was introduced by his mother, Rotarian Diane Clark.  (see below for details)
  • At the brief officers meeting the concept of incorporating a vocational speech routine in our club was discussed, despite the noise of furniture take-down and someone trying to steal our table and chairs.  Future discussion of this concept will be held, although Duane has volunteered to be Chair of the event.  At the most, the vocational speeches will take about 3 minutes (mandatory max. with fine for violators) from our meeting agenda
