PRESIDENT MIKE'S COMMENTS:

WDC Rotarians... Hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas & Happy New Year day. Our club party is January 21st and will be lots of fun (remember to find that "white elephant" gift).

SPEAKER FOR JANUARY 4 - PAT HINES

Our speaker for this Thursday will be be Pat Hines from the Girl Scouts. In addition to talking about the Girl Scouts in general, she will discuss a recent trip to Asia.

MEETING NOTES FROM OUR LAST MEETING

Our meeting today was "sans" visiting Rotarians
Treasurer Rita reported $3,171.29 which reflects by pending $1,850 check to The Rotary Foundation for our clubs annual donation which is funding by $50 per member at dues time. This annual deduction is tax deductible for $50 per member therefore for 2017 taxes. (Ron's note: Semi Annual dues bill of about $1,335 will further reduce our balance to about $1,850 in next week or so)
Jim announced there will be a Lunch Bunch meeting on the second Wednesday noon of January.
Our January 21th Party with White Elephant Gift will be held on January 21 at Farmer Brown in Waterloo.
Goals for the year 2018 were discussed, including ten percent membership growth, continued scholarship program, club projects and committee work.
Tod announced that an eye surgeon will speak to our group in February.
Jim announced that the COPE party included 117 family gifts and 500 food baskets and Jim thanked all club members and spouses and friends who contributed and volunteered to these worthy efforts.
Neil introduced our speaker of the week from Project Harmony, Jessica Kroeker. Jessica is a Training Specialist and Mental Health Therapist at Project Harmony. Her work is focused on trauma in both therapeutic interventions with victims of abuse and training throughout the community on recognizing trauma and its symptoms. She is currently coordinating Omaha's Trauma Informed Community initiative. Additionally, Jessica provides therapy in rural Nebraska and previously worked several years in foster child adoption and permanency services. Jessica earned her Master's in Public Administration and Master's in Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The key focus of her presentation was Adverse Child Experience (ACE). Those experiences are shown in the chart below.
I regret to report that I don't have the name of the winner of lucky kitty ticket and color of golf ball withdrawn. (aarrgg!)
