Dr. Bary Habrock, our speaker today was introduced by his predecessor (once removed) Dr. Roger Breed.  Dr. Habrock will become the Superintendent of Elkhorn Public Schools on July 1, 2017, replacing Dr. Steve Baker (I heard someone say, "Cleanup after Steve").

Dr. Bary is originally from Emerson Nebraska, received a BA and MS and Ed Specialist Doctorate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.  He has served 5 years as a Principal and 8 years as Assistant Superintendent of Elkhorn Public Schools.  His wife Rhonda is also a teacher with Elkhorn Public Schools.  His Children are 19 year old Kaitlyn, 15 year old Jack and 15 year old Morgan.

Dr. Bary told a story Elkhorn (Public Schools): Values, Tradition, Excellence and Expectations.  He outlined the EPS Culture of growth that maintains the feel of a small community with strong parental involvement, Equality of opportunity of all building sites,  Strong student involvement in activities and Relentless focus on achievement for every child

EPS focus on student learning with High Expectation and willingness to examine all of their practices based upon their impact on student learning, Additional Time and Support when students have not yet learned essential skills, Teacher and Principal quality matter, and Results focused continuous improvement.

There is no place like ELKHORN, a story of Great Students, Parents, Educators and Community.  Dr. Bary discussed the Learning Goals of Planning for Growth, High levels of learning for all students, Extended Learning Opportunities, and Skills for a Global Workspace.

SECRETARY NOTES - May 18, 2017
  • The club was called to order by President pro tem Jim Tomanek in place of Dan Palmquist who was in “sick bay” with an eye infection. Guests at the meeting included Roger Bevington and Gary Wasaber ger, both from Valley who were of the belief that they would be today’s guest speakers along with Cal Hinz.  time on the club speaker’s circuit will be NEXT week the 25th.
  • Treasurer Rita reported there was $3,504 in the bank.
  • If the Secretary would have been called on, he would have reported that dues statements will go out today by Club Runner email for the $200 annual dues. The purpose of sending statements is partly for those who have a need to submit for reimbursement or a check if their company covers the cost of Rotary participation.
  • Jim reported the PANTRY BOX program will be a monthly activity.About 8 volunteers for about an hour and a half in the early evening will be needed.  Wednesday the 24th is the first volunteer opportunity.  PS:  Wednesday is hamburger night at Buck's in Venice
  • Rex and Jasmine shared some Norwegian Kransekakke with us.  Takk skal du ha!
  • Mike Ough had the winning ticket from the drawing and promptly won a WHITE BALL.
  • Neil did his usual good job of extracting money from the membership.
