President Roger was absent and Illustrious Past President and Joke Teller Mike Ough presided.

Dave Rosacker gave the invocation and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Visiting Rotarian from the Suburban Club was Jim Leslie. 

Treasurer Rita reported that our bank book showed $5,439.60. 

 

Secretary Ron reported that a motion would be needed to designate our delegate to the District telephone meeting on Thursday evening May 12th.  Our club is entitled to one delegate, clubs are allowed one delegate per 25 members.  Lacking any volunteers from the floor, President Roger was elected to be our delegate.

 

Diane reported that Paul and LuAnn Dritley will be hosting a summer outing at their Lake Home South of Valley on the evening of July 22 beginning at 530 PM.  Our hosts will be providing the main course and guests are invited to bring a side dish and "your own adult beverages".  More information will be provide on this event in the near future.

 

Neil reported that our meeting speak this coming Thursday will be Kevin Boyle who is a good friend of Neil and Dan Palmquist.  Kevin is President of the Templeton Bank and lives in nearby Manning, Iowa where he serves as president of the Manning Rotary Club.  Kevin has served on an agricultural mission in Africa.

 

Jim Tomanek mentioned the next Lunch Bunch will be on May 11th at Shevy's and the speaker will be from Planned Parenthood.

 

Judy Ackland mentioned her email received from Allison Brown-Corson for our members to go on line and vote for their food pantry at UNO.  Members were emailed copies of that email by Ron.  It is any easy process to vote, just go to the link provided and a display will come up with a space to vote with a simple "CLICK".

 

Has anyone seen Tod's badge as he reported it missing.  His current badge was so old, he probably needs a new one.

 

Jim reminded the group that our Clubs Scholarship Golf Outing on July 11th at the Pines in Valley will cost $85 per golfer.

 

Ron introduced Tim Yager, Projects Engineer with OPPD, who will talk about the OPPD Generating Station located on the Elk City Landfill site which burns landfill gases to generate electricity.  Tim has worked in construction for 40 years, with the last 30 years being with OPPD.  He has a degree in Chemical Engineering and is a Registered Mechanical Engineer in the State of Nebraska.  In the early portion of his 40 year career, he worked with construction projects in the Elkhorn area.

 

Tim showed a slide show providing general information on OPPD with specific information on details related to the design and operation of the Elk City Station.  The output of the station is in excess of 5 MW and it is connected directly to the OPPD distribution system without any connection to the high Voltage transmission system.  Tim noted that if the amount of waste, such as yard waste, is increased and the amount of generation capacity is increased, OPPD may have to connect the plant to their transmission system in some manner.  The generating facilities are actually owned and maintained by the city's contractor for waste management.  Tim had some interesting slides showing how the land fill site is capped to capture the land fill gasses that are extracted from the land fill.

 

Our current President was absent for the kitty drawing so we know for sure he didn't win the Kitty AGAIN!
