Remember, we will be meeting with the Omaha Morning Rotary Club on Tuesday, November 13th at 7am at Happy Hollow Country Club. We will not have our regular meeting on Thursday that week.
As I went through the training to be your President, one of things I enjoyed was learning more about our Rotary organization. I have continued to learn more. Here’s another fact about Rotary:
Rotary has Four Avenues of Services that refer to the four elements of the Object of Rotary:
Club Service involves everything necessary for our club to function properly and successfully.
Vocational Service refers to the opportunity each of us have to represent our vocation to the other members of the club.
Community Service is about what each of us do individually and as a club do to make our community or communities better for everyone.
International Service is about all the programs Rotary and individual members are involved in to promote international understanding, goodwill, and peace.

Join Rotary 14 as we recognize University of Nebraska-Lincoln Volleyball Coach John Cook as the Nebraskan of the Year on Tuesday October 30, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
The Rotary #14 Nebraskan of the Year award was established to honor and recognize the accomplishments of a Nebraskan who has distinguished himself or herself through service to others in keeping with ideals of Rotary International. The 2018 Nebraskan of the Year is Coach John Cook.
Each year one honoree from a statewide field of nominees is selected based on honesty, integrity and concern for others; service in charitable and civic causes and; leadership and significant accomplishments in his/her profession or volunteer activities.
Previous winners of the Nebraskan of the Year Award include business leader Anthony Messineo, Jr., Educator Dr. Martin Massengale, businessman and philanthropist Duane Acklie, former U. S. Congressman and Husker Coach and Athletic Director Dr. Tom Osborne, U. S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, Civil Rights Leader Leola Bullock and former Nebraska Governor Charles Thone.
The 2018 event will be held October 30, 2018 at Embassy Suites in Lincoln. Doors open at 11:30 am and the program will conclude by 1:00 pm.

Northwest Rotary invites Rotarians, family members and friends to attend a Movie Night for fun, fellowship and raising funds for PolioPlus. Movie Night will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. There will be a potluck dinner at 5:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Fried chicken will be provided and attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. The movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), will start at 6:30 p.m. after dinner. This fellowship event will be held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 202 South 20th Street, in Omaha. Omaha West Rotary is having a Bloody Mary Jazz Fest on Nov 4th from 3-6pm. We would love to have Rotarians and Bloody Mary lovers attend. We have opportunities for bars to show off their bloody mary’s, sponsorships and ticket sales. The details can be found at .
Mark your calendars for Tuesday morning, November 13th. Our club will join the Morning Rotary Club for their Tuesday morning meeting at Happy Hollow CC at 7:00am. WE WILL NOT HAVE OUR MEETING ON 11/15 because of this special event.
Diane plugged the “Dive Dinner Party” on the evening of Friday, October 19th at 6:00PM at The Mark. Donations will be collected for The Rotary Polio Fund on behalf of our club.
The West O Chamber of Commerce first annual Wine Walk in Olde Towne Elkhorn will be held tonight, Thursday, October 18th 5PM-8PM. For the low price of just $15, participants will enjoy a sampling of various wines while they stroll along visiting the shops in downtown Elkhorn AND the proceeds will all go to COPE!
Support the Girls is a fundraiser to help breast cancer patients in the Elkhorn area. It was postponed last Sunday and is rescheduled for Sunday, October 21st in Downtown Elkhorn.
Neil did another fine job.
Presentation: Neil introduced one of our favorite past-club members, Jill Muegge. On a side note, the scent of cigars was hardly noticeable as Jill entered the room. Jill shared another of her traveling adventures-a recent trip the Cuba. It was very interesting to learn all about the history of Cuba as well as hearing of how things have become more open and welcoming to those that choose to visit there. It was great to have Jill back, if even just for a day!
Next meeting speaker (10/25): Gail will bring Brian Moon from the Rotary Foundation.
Drawing: Dave Rosacker once again won the drawing and managed to pull the orange ball! Quick, buy a lottery ticket Dave!
Our Rotary Club is scheduled to ring the Salvation Army Red Kettle bells at Family Fare grocery store on 204th & Pacific Street, November 19th, 20th, and 21st. I will have a sign up schedule to pass around at our meetings beginning November 1st.
