Presentation:
Gail introduced Jeff Hawk from FirStar Fiber who explained the recycling buiness in the metro area. Currently, 50% of their buiness is commercial with the rest residential. Jeff talked about the automated separating process used with paper, plastics, glass, aluminium, etc. Also, he explained the orange "Hefty Energy Bag" program to separate non-recycled plastics, such as potato chip bags, candy wrappers, foam cups, tooth paste tubes, plastice utensils, food bags, etc.; otherwise, these items are just put in the trash. (Jeff handed out sample "orange" bags for members to use at home.) Questions were asked, such as Roger's... "Should paper & plastic be recycled in the bins (as he says) or in plastic bags (as his wife says)?" Jeff said that Roger was "Right"!
Daune won a "white" ball and the meeting adjourned.
