When I look for inspiration for my weekly notes to all of you, I usually go to rotary.org or our district website.  Since I haven’t read the Rotary Magazine for a couple weeks, I thought I would check out their website and see what I could find.  I found some great inspiration in an article about the efforts from a Rotary Club member in Yonkers, New York.  You can read the entire article here https://www.rotary.org/en/hoops-hudson.  The member, Peter Spano, wanted to restore a severely deteriorated basketball court in downtown Manhattan.  “He imagined a flawless new court where children and adults could play pickup games, but he also envisioned how that court might serve as a staging ground for basketball clinics and anti-bullying sessions.”  “To teach life lessons through basketball.”  Four years in the making, the court is now fulfilling his dream. 

 

The other great nugget out of the article is that Mr. Spano first heard about Rotary through Steven Spielberg’s film “Catch Me If You Can.”  He saw the lessons he himself learned on the basketball court reflected in Rotary.  He joined the Yonkers-East Yonkers Rotary club in 2015 and immediately started on the basketball court as a project for the club.  Check it out!
