Mark Patefield, a Laurel native, told us about his job as pharmacist at U Save and a little about his family at our club meeting on February 27.  He graduated from UNL and Creighton.  His wife, Christina, is a Minden native, she is the pharmacist at Laurel.  Together they have 4 children They bought that business in 2005.  Mark worked at various pharmacies before taking over Medicap in November, 2005.  They built the new store in 2007. It is a separate independent ownership that is also tied to a "network of people" through U Save.  He described the timeframe when Shopko closed their doors to the pharmacy.  Mark noted they doubled the volume of sales only to have the flu hit at the same time. The goal of U Save is convenient, fast service with an emphasis on how to improve the outcome of medications.  He noted it is vital for people to take all their medications, and that it is their goal to question them as to why they don't take them all if they don't. Mark has added more staff.  Office hours are 9-6 M-F and 9-1:30 on Saturday.  He noted his coach stated, "Luck happens when it meets opportunity."

Club President Barbara Engebretsen introduced Mark to the club.
