This meeting of the Northwest Omaha Rotary Club honors BOB EVANS, guru of sausage and favorite son of Ohio.
Robert Lewis Evans was an American restaurateur and pork processor. He was born in 1918 in Sugar Ridge, Ohio, a village near Toledo, Ohio. His farm and first restaurant was in Rio Grande, Ohio, a village near Gallipolis, Ohio, which is not that far from Columbus, Ohio. That is a way of saying that he was very much a son of Ohio, with connections to the northwest sections and middle central of the state. He started at a truck stop near Gallipolis, Ohio in 1948. Soon, he had four pork plants. He soon had restaurants throughout Ohio. Today, there are Bob Evans restaurants in 16 states. All are corporate owned, rather than franchises.
The Bob Evans restaurants are, today, owned by Golden Gate Capitol, which also owns the Long John Silver’s restaurants. The grocery store retail operation is now a separate corporation that sells sausage, prepared potatoes and other products. Bob Evans died in 2007. He was 89 years old. He is the only person to have been honored three time by the National Wildlife federation for his work to protect wild animals.
Dave will be speaking about Dino's Storage and the reality TV show he was on.
