Boy Scouts of Troop 448 at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church at the 911 Call Center Boy Scouts Loading Christmas Stockings for 911 Call Center Staff Ben Bernier developed an Eagle Scout project to show appreciation for the efforts of the 911 Call Center staff. Ben's project included coloring Christmas stockings and filling them with gift items as a thank your for the service of the seventy-two 911 Call Center staff. Ben contacted the Director of the 911 Call Center for approval to proceed with his project. The teachers of two second grade classes were contacted to request the help of the second graders to color the stockings. Ben also coordinated with the Omaha Police to arrange for officers to visit the second grade class to explain the importance of the 911 Call Center to the students. Ben visited Northwest Rotary to request donations of items and/or funding to support the purchase of stockings and items to fill the stockings. Northwest Rotarians personally donated $463.39 to this project and the club foundation approved a $500.00 donation to support this project. Boy Scouts of Troop 448 at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church helped Ben fill the stockings and with their parents the scouts joined Ben when delivering the stockings on Christmas Day. They delivered the stockings as a show of appreciation to all of the staff by going to the 911 Call Center at the shift change time. This made it possible for the gift to be delivered to each staff member. The Scouts and their family members also were able to tour the facility and ask questions of the staff on duty. A flyer was included in each stocking noting the project was an Eagle Scout service project led by Scout Ben Bernier of Troop 448 sponsored by Mary Our Queen Catholic Church, Christmas stockings were colored by second grade classes at Mary Our Queen and the project was sponsored by the Omaha Northwest Rotary Club. The same club that has provided food trays on Thanksgiving Day for the 911 staff for many years. Our congratulations to Ben Bernier on the Eagle Scout service project he took from an idea to planning, implementation and completion! |
