BOB'S BLURB ABOUT BOBS

BOB TRAVERS

This meeting of Northwest Omaha Rotary honors BOB TRAVERS, known as the Black Wonder.

Although Bob Travers was born in Virginia, in 1832, he lived in England from childhood, as his father moved the family to Cornwall where he opened a shop selling crockery. The English middleweight Nat Langham taught him to fight. He was recognized by The Illustrated Sporting News in 1863 as one of the great pugilists of England. All other boxers of his era were white. Still, he was portrayed as being true English, with his birth origins kept secret. He was billed as the Black Wonder or as Black Dynamite. In an era when boxing was a bare knuckles endeavor, Bob Travers enjoyed a career that lasted more than a decade.

SUBURBAN & WEST ON-SITE MEETING UPDATE

On Site Meeting Update & Speakers

Suburban Rotary will begin meeting at Anthony's on August 13th. Suburban Rotary also announced the current RI President Holger Knaack will be speaking on their Zoom meeting August 6th. Chuck Hagel will be speaking at the Suburban Rotary Zoom meeting on July 30th. Suburban's meetings at Anthony's will be a hybrid of Zoom and in-person meetings.

West Rotary will begin meeting at Champions Club on August 7th.
