NORTHWEST ROTARY CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF SERVICE

Omaha Northwest Rotary celebrates 40 years of service! Northwest Rotary was chartered on February 21, 1978. Bob Nelson served as the first club president from the date chartered in February through the end of the Rotary year, June 30, 1978. The club was meeting at Nasr's located at 6553 Ames Avenue. The club's first officers were Bob Nelson, President; Patrick Clarke, Secretary; Horace Hess, Treasurer; Richard Johns, Sgt. at Arms and Directors were Tony Hallac, Jim Fuller and Stephen Sayler. The club celebrated "Charter Night" at the New Tower Motel, Palace Room for 'A Gala Occasion' at $20 per couple on March 31st. Tom Horeis was the first new member to join the club in April 1978. 

 

 

 

Today, Bob Nelson and Chuck Sederstrom are the club's two Charter Members that are still Active Members in the club. Steve Sayler and Tony Hallac, both Charter Members, are currently Honorary Club Members. On May 30, 1978 it was reported that the club membership was 31 and today the club membership is 31. Club membership has at times been close to 60 members. All members are encouraged to invite prospective new members to the weekly club meetings. This has been an ongoing request since the club was chartered. New members allow the club to continue providing service and projects in the Omaha metro area and bring new ideas and energy. The club has taken on a wide variety of community service projects and some of the projects will be noted in upcoming newsletters. This year the club will organize the 38th Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska in cooperation with the Omaha Pedalers. As a result of this club project over $522,000.00 has been awarded in scholarships to Nebraska high school graduates attending Nebraska colleges and universities.
