How Field Club of Omaha adapted to running a business during COVID-19
Sep. 22, 2020
Greg was born and raised in a private club culture in the western Nebraska town of Paxton, population 500. At age 13 he reluctantly picked up a golf club after tearing up his knee playing junior high football (late 4th quarter when the 3rd team finally got to play). A graduate of Skutt Catholic and Creighton University, Greg was part of a state championship golf team in high school which sold him on having a professional office near the first tee.
Greg is a Class A PGA Professional from the PGA of America and a Certified Club Manager from the Club Management Association of America. Club management has taken him from Council Bluffs to Kansas City to Burlington, Iowa. Greg returned to Omaha in 2017 where he is currently the General Manager at Field Club of Omaha. Greg is married to his much more intelligent and far better-looking wife Samantha who is a physician at Children’s Hospital. When not at the Club, you’ll find Greg with his family (two kids; 3-year-old boy and 1-year-old girl) at Nebraska Football or Creighton Basketball games; the epitome of a true Jaysker. |

Looking for something to do while you are biking or walking the next few weeks practicing social distancing? Please find a link to a collaborative service project that you can participate in on your own time in helping with the Rotary Omaha Metro Trail Marker Project 2020. Omaha Rotary Night Club is coordinating. All we have to do is to mark the section of the trail as members that we observe. Please write your observations and put Omaha Morning Rotary Club. Let Yolanda and I know that how many hours you helped and what part of the trail you helped with and we will enter under our Omaha Morning Rotary project activities. This is an easy project and will benefit everyone and we get recognized for our work! Once at the site please watch the video and then to participate click on the following at the site. See below - "Use this link to record your progress as you complete the survey. If we get all of ours done - we can always sign up for more." In Rotary, We are going to be doing the trail from the Bob Kerry Bridge, south, along the trail, starting from our condo at 9 AM (105 South 9th Street, and will then meet hereafter our bike ride to identify markers so about 11 AM for coffee and fun at our condo (#707). Welcome, all! James is looking into the other trail project that is much more complicated, meaning that the signage stations need to be dismantled, sanded, and then re-varnished. This is what requires more time and coordination as even the screws require special equipment as safety against vandalism. The place for that rehab is to be determined. I know there is big Rotary station signage at the Harrison Street park, so James will coordinate with the Rotarians in charge, Bren. We will be ‘ready to ride’ at 9 AM! |

The Power of Play
Feb. 16, 2021
With a background in pediatric nursing, I have seen firsthand what a child and their family goes through when diagnosed with a life-threatening condition. This became a reality for our family when our niece Gabby was diagnosed with cancer at age 5. Her determination and kind, giving spirit spilled over into her wish to bring a Bag of Fun to every child fighting a battle. It is our wish to bring Bags of Fun to the Omaha area and continue spreading the joy and love that Gabby would have wanted. It is in her spirit that we bring happiness wrapped up in a backpack to those children going through a really tough time in a world where just being a kid and playing is their job! It is with great honor that we are able to bring this foundation to the Omaha area and are extremely grateful for the opportunity to provide joy to children living with a life-threatening illness. |

Offutt Air Force Base
Mar. 16, 2021
Marty Lehman was born at Loring AFB, Maine as an Air Force brat, then settled in Texas when his father retired from the USAF. Marty grew up in the Texas hill country, hunting, and fishing, camping, and hiking. After graduating high school he went to Texas A&M and joined the Corp of Cadets to follow in his family’s footsteps of becoming an Air Force pilot. It was during that first year that he spent time with the Army Cadets and decided to take a break from college and enlist. He spent 21 great years in the Army, retiring in 2004, then immediately returning overseas as a contractor to continue serving with, and contributing to, our armed forces. Marty continued fighting and working in Iraq and Afghanistan until 2012 when the effects of an IED forced his home. In between trips to the Middle East, Marty worked in several different industries at home, manufacturing and logistics, aviation service, and inventory control/warehousing. In 2017, Marty was asked by DynCorp to go to Puerto Rico to assist with the rebuilding of the electrical power grid for the island. After a very successful 13 months in which they moved over $400M of material through the port, he returned home. In March 2019 he was asked to come to Omaha (for 60 days they said) to assist in the rebuilding of Offutt AFB. |
