Guest Speaker:

Lori Benton from Omaha Rotary West, RYLA Chairman of the District.

-Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) will be at Camp Kitaki, April 17-19, 2020

-RYLA camp is an opportunity for young people to develop themselves, acquire leadership skills, learn ethical standards, and hear about Rotary’s mission both domestically and internationally, and gain knowledge about being a good citizen in the world.

-Ideal RYLA candidates are high school sophomores and juniors

-Rotary International Board encourages us to also invite socially and economically disadvantaged youth who have leadership potential.

-Rotarians are encouraged to recruit their children or grandchildren as they receive priority placement  . . . The balance of open spots will be given to accepted, “at-large”, high school nominees.

-Rotary clubs cover all expenses.

-limiting RYLA 2020 to fifty students

-The deadline for Rotary applications is December 31, 2019.

-The deadline for the at- large applications is March 1, 2020.

-Rotary applications have priority over “at-large applicants” & therefore it is very important to have them in earlier, so we know how many spots we have left for at-large applicants

-Lori is asking clubs to please consider committing camp tuition or general funds to enable an impactful camp experience.

-Tuition for 2020 is $200 per student. (This amount will increase to $300 in 2021 as prices have increased over the last six years and Lori will be running back ground checks for all those working with youth.)

-Total tuition funds needed for 2020 is $10,000.

-Lori would like to incorporate new and different activities i.e. bike kits (kids will be putting together bikes) to teach and/or incorporate team building, leadership, and motivational experiences that will help the students improve their leadership skills and promote the ideals of Rotary and service to our communities and the world. Sponsorship packages will be offered as well as outside fundraising.

-Lori needs to have tuition funds from our club as soon as possible

-Our club’s financial commitment today will help the RYLA committee to gage needed additional financial support.
