Last week, Beth Gunzel presented information on Heifer International where we learned how they have helped 36.9 million families in 21 countries over the past 75 years! We also learned there's 1 billion people around the world that currently live in poverty.
I visited their website heifer.org and found a "gift catelog" where animals can be purchased. A flock of chickens can be purchased for $20, a goat or sheep $120, alpaca $150 and a heifer $500. My other take-away from Beth's presentation was how Heifer International not only provides livestock while caring for the earth, it also provides education for animal management (proper caring and feeding, humanely
slaughtering, etc).
I wanted to remind everyone, we still have 5 tickets available to the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge that can be purchased for $62.50 each.
The annual benefit dinner is Sept 9th at Silver Shores Waterfront in Wyandotte. Your board approved a $1000 Table Sponsorship and split 1/2 of that cost with our members ($500) who wish to attend.
This refuge, located in the heart of a metropolitan area, (Detroit River IWR) is the only international wildlife refuge in North America. Very Special.

We will be joining several Downriver Rotary Clubs at the Southern Wayne County Regional Chambers' Black Tie Gala and Expo Event held on Sept 9th.
This year the event will have a fun masquerade theme and attendees will be treated to heavy appetizers from local restaurants, an open bar and entertainment. Ticket price is $65. Our 601 Group members are busy planning their 2nd annual golf outing "FORE THE CAUSE" that will take place at West Shore Golf & County Club
