Thursday, August 29th, was a special, fun night for Rotarians who signed up for the Detroit Rolling Pub event, organized by Rose Angela. We needed 2 trolleys to hold all of us as we pedaled and sung our way around Detroit. Attending were: Matt and Jackie Hatty and their son Mitchell and nephew Sean, Ronnie Ruelle, Laurie and Joe Dixon, Mike Concessi, Mark and Janet Angellotti, Rose Angela Gronda, Bill and Paulette Dillingham, Bob and Kathy Paulbeck, Alyssa Angellotti and Tyler Severson, Bill and Susan Borrows, Dale and Barb Malzahn, Noel Jackson, Tom and Linda Dickman, Valerie and Joe Dzagulones.
Our fun drivers took us to Pappy's in Greektown and Bookies downtown where we played cornhole on the roof!! This was a great fellowship event that everyone attending enjoyed. Thanks again Rose Angela!
Monday, September 9, is our 5:01 gathering at Sibley Gardens, followed by the evening meeting of Rotarians at 6:00. Everyone is welcome to attend either event or both.
Thursday, 6:00 p.m., is our fellowship cookout at John Howey's home, 2955 Riverside, Trenton. All Rotarians are invited to this gathering along with spouses or significant others. Feel free to bring a dish or dessert to pass if you would like to. John says we are ''keeping it simple''. Come on out to this fun get together as we hang on to the last beautiful days of summer.

"The Ramblings of the Mad Hatter"
Hello Trenton Rotarians!
My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the people of the Bahamas and everyone else who has been affected by Hurricane Dorian. I can't even imagine the devastation that the media reports have shown. I've already forwarded to you an email I received from Rotary International (via DG John Chambers) with opportunities to donate toward the cause. Also, the Kids Coalition Against Hunger campaign run by the Fairlane Sunrise Rotary Club will give you an opportunity to get involved by packing meals that will be sent to the Bahamas in its time of need. This event is being held Saturday, September 28 from 7:00 am until 12:00 pm at Wayne County Community College on Haggerty Road in Belleville. So give of yourself and connect the world by helping those affected by this hurricane.
For those of you who weren't at our meeting of August 26, you missed a good one. The meeting started with Steve Ahles of the Southgate Rotary presenting Noel Jackson with the Vince Lombardi trophy for his championship efforts in last season's Rotary Fantasy Football league, not Noel's first from my understanding. The highlight of the Fantasy Football awards was the presentation of the long lost Toilet Bowl award to Bill Jasmin for his less than stellar efforts during the 2014 season (I think). Best of luck to those of you participating in this year's Fantasy Football league. Let's see if we can defeat the New England Patriots of District 6400. Yes, Noel, there's a target on your back!
We also awarded our latest Peach Chain Link Awards to Melanie Richards, director of the Kids Talk program at the Guidance Center, and Kurt Sebaly of the Penrickton Center for Blind Children, as well as the centers themselves. Their efforts in supporting and protecting the most vulnerable in our society will go a long way in promoting peace and safety in our communities.
The meeting ended with our own Jim Zanglin speaking about the state of real estate in the Downriver area. The fact that I found most interesting is that cost of building a new house in the price range of the typical buyer is higher than what the houses are going for, which is slowing down new construction. Thank you, Jim, for a very informative presentation.
On Thursday, August 29, the Trenton Rotary invaded Downtown Detroit again. Twenty-six Rotarians, families and friends took over two peddle pubs and enjoyed a beautiful night in the city. It's always a great time when Trenton Rotarians get together.
Join us this Monday when Tina Walther of Rapport Marketing will update us on what is happening in Southeastern Michigan. Also join us for this month's 5:01 Meeting at 5:01 pm and this month's Extendables Meeting at 6:00 pm. Both events will be held at Sibley Gardens. And don't forget the Rotary Fellowship this Thursday evening at John Howey's home.
I hope you enjoyed your Labor Day holiday. It was a nice break before the start of the school year. Now it's time to connect the world as you do the right thing. Remember to always live the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self."

I was born and raised in Greenville, Michigan, the oldest (and smartest) of 3 kids.
I have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, a Masters degree in Cybersecurity, and have worked in IT for over 30 years in many industry sectors including Defense, Retail, Automotive, Education, and Finance. Currently, I am a Global Cybersecurity Manager at GE.
Michelle and I reside in Southgate. She has taught at Anderson Elementary in Trenton for 28 years. Both of our kids went to Trenton Schools. Our son is starting his 3rd year at Western Michigan University studying Anthropology, and our daughter is starting her 2nd year at Grand Valley State University studying Environmental Studies. I enjoy volunteering in the local community and spend time mentoring students in elementary, middle school, and high school in Trenton. In my spare time, I teach the Masters degree program at the University of Detroit, and I teach Computer Science at Trenton High School. I am also the coach of 2 Trenton CyberPatriot teams.
We are avid University of Michigan fans, holding season tickets for football and basketball for many years. I am also on the staff of the Michigan Marching Band and can be found on the sidelines with the band during most UM football games.
When we’re not working, Michelle and I spend as much time as possible at our vacation home on Beaver Island.
