Totes for Teachers

The Totes for Teachers program came up when during discussions with President Mark Angellotti about what he wanted to do as a signature project for his year for the Trenton Rotary to perform. He brought up that his wife was a teacher who recently retired, but they were buying about $500 of supplies annually. Rotarians then went to talk to both principals to see if there was a need in Trenton.

Trenton Rotary Club wrote a grant to Rotary International for a $2000 matching grant to purchase all the materials for totes for the teachers. When the Rotary Club started acquiring materials, the costs escalated to near $5000. Trenton Rotarians were asked for donations to the project and the Trenton Rotary Club stepped up with the last $1000 in costs. Logistical support was provided by St Paul's Lutheran Church care minister Jack Scola. He allowed us to ship all the materials to St Paul's and the Trenton Rotary Club assembled the totes there with a team of 17 Rotarians and community members. The project is meant to honor the work Mark's wife did as a teacher, but is also meant to honor the profession of being a teacher in the Trenton Public Schools and to thank them for their service.

A big thank you to Kyle and Bill for organizing the Totes for Teachers grant project. What a great way to see Rotary dollars come back into our District and more importantly our club. Thanks to everyone else who came out and made the assembly process so smooth. Plans are moving forward for our Euchre Tournament so grab some friends and come out for some craft beer and cards. Our District Governor will be our guest those week so do your best to make our Monday meeting. Our committees are always looking for more help so please reach out and let me know if you are ready to jump in and help.
