December 1, 2014

I hope you all enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday with your families!  Along those same lines, December is designated as Family Month by Rotary.  This is a time to get our family more involved with Rotary.  We'll celebrate during the month with Christmas parties, a Christmas Parade and bell ringing!  These are all opportunities to involve our families.

Donna Schmidt, PDG, will speak to us today about the plans for the medical center in Ethiopia.  This is another program supported by the Rotary Foundation.  Welcome, Donna!

The lightpole banners are up!  If you drive down West Jefferson, you'll see the light blue banners we designed in our joint project with the Trenton Business Association.  Please take a look as you drive through town to see the participants' names as well as important messages from Trenton Rotary.  The banners will appear in two other colors during the year so stay tuned for those.  I think they give a nice touch to the downtown area! Thanks to the businesses that participated and purchased a Rotary banner: Comfort Keepers in-Home Care, Labadie's Patio Outlet, N.A. Mans, PNC Bank, Savannah's Restaurant and Jackson DDS Dental Design Studio!  And thanks to the TBA for working through this with us!

We have a few things coming up this week: we have a Beach Blast meeting Tuesday evening at Rick Williams' office followed by Wine, Women & Warmth on Wednesday evening and then we're participating in the Trenton Christmas Parade on Saturday evening!  It's a busy time of year.  Please participate in one or more of these events....they'll all be fun!

Please remember that we won't have our regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, December 8th because we'll meet on Wednesday, December 10th for the Wild Game Luncheon.  This allows Ronnie to host the Past Presidents' Meeting on Monday during our regular meeting time.  We'll meet again on Monday, December 15th.

Have a good week!

***December is Family Month***
We'll celebrate Family Month with many events, including walking in the Trenton Christmas Parade, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, our Trenton Rotary Club Christmas Party and our Family Christmas Party at our noon meeting on December 22nd.  Please get your family members involved in any or all of these events!

Quote of the Week:

The hero is the one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by.  The saint is the man who walks through the dark paths of the world, himself a light.  - Felix Adler

Wine, Women & Warmth - December 3rd @ Westfield

This event is designed to offer fellowship and an opportunity for hands-on service.  We'll be assembling no-sew fleece blankets that evening at Westfield and these blankets will benefit the Kids Talk Program sponsored by the Guidance Center.  While we're assembling these blankets, we'll also have wine, snacks and share some conversation while we work!   If you'd like to attend and bring a dish to pass, please sign up on the sign-up sheet or let Rose Angela know.  Please also let your spouses know so they can come help.  Click this link for more information: http://www.rotary6400.org/assets/images/flyers1415/Wine,%20Women,%20Warmth.pdf

Wild Game Luncheon - December 10th at the Grosse Ile Country Club

The Wild Game Luncheon is coming up on Wednesday, December 10th.  Make sure to contact Bob Howey or John Martenson if you'd like to sponsor the event or have wild game you'd like to donate.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing - December 12th and 13th

Please see Mark Angellotti to sign up for a bell ringing shift one of these two days.  If you have any friends or family that would like to take a shift, let Mark know and he'd be glad to sign them up.  Dan Leiter is helping Mark out this year as well...thanks, Mark and Dan!

Volunteer to help The Guidance Center - December 13th

The Guidance Center is looking for volunteers to help take kids shopping at Walmart the morning of Saturday, December 13th, from 8-9:30am.  Even if you've signed up to ring the bell that morning, you still have time for a quick shopping trip inside before you head to your bell ringing station!  Please see Jean Wloszek to volunteer.

Interact Jingle Drive - December 13th @ the Martenson Funeral Home Parking Lot

Please stop by and see the Interact Club members on Saturday, December 13th in the Martenson Funeral Home Parking Lot where they'll be collecting clothing and canned food for the those in need and trying to keep warm at the same time!  You'll find them there from 10am to midnight.   Please see Jane or Bruce for more information.
