Friday, November 8, Portofino Comedy Room, 7:00 p.m. This event will be a fun way for us to hold a fundraiser. Tickets are $20 for an evening of fun with comedian Tom McCarthy. Bring your friends! Tickets are available from Kathy Kane.

It was another exciting week in Rotary. Not only has your club been preparing for upcoming club projects, the members have been busy taking part in many other events. The week started with Ayana King of Maximum Communications, LLC giving an interesting and thought provoking presentation on diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. Many parts of her presentation caused one to pause, including the following definition: microaggression - a comment or action that subtly and often unconsciously or unintentionally expresses a prejudiced attitude toward a marginalized group. These are ideas that we all need to be aware of in all areas of our lives.
Monday evening, while yours truly drove two and a half hours (each way) for a 3 - 0 Heidelberg University football loss, 39 Rotarians, Interactors, family members and friends got together to make over thirty blankets for our Salvation Army Christmas donation. Many thanks to Paulette Dillingham for her efforts toward an exceptional project.
Wednesday morning, I started my foray as part of the Trenton Rotary Reading Brigade. I sat with one third grader and two fourth graders at Hedke Elementary School and helped them read a couple of books. The excitement they showed when they were able to figure out a few tricky words and finally "get" what they were reading told me that I am definitely Doing the Right Thing.
President-Elect, Kathy Kane, was scheduled to attend her Pre-Pre-PETS (Presidents Elect Training) seminar this week. I'm not sure how it went, but make sure you let her know that you are behind her as she starts her preparation for her year as President.
Join us at Monday's meeting, when René Pothetes will speak to us regarding something that we all need to be mindful of, a healthy lifestyle. I will also be passing around a sheet to take donations toward the Rotary Foundation's efforts to eradicate polio in acknowledgement of World Polio Day. There are many events going on in our district for World Polio Day, so I thought that this would be a better way for us to contribute to the effort. Keep in mind that the donations you make go toward your next Paul Harris award. Monday evening is our October 5:01 fellowship meeting and the monthly meeting of The Extendables. Please make every effort to attend one or the other. And the rest of this coming week will find our membership continuing to pull together the Halloween Hayride, the Comedy Night, the Be The Match bone marrow drive, the Wild Game Dinner, the Sham-Rockin' On the River, etc., etc., etc. We have a lot going on and need each and every one of you to help out whenever and wherever you can. Remember, the more that you give to Rotary, the more that Rotary will give to you. Continue to Connect the World as you Do the Right Thing. And, as always, be an example of Service Above Self.

Ronnie Ruelle
My name is Ronnie Ruelle. My journey with Rotary began in 1995 when I attended the Cash Classic presented by the Trenton Rotary. I watched this group in action and quickly decided I wanted to part of this organization. In 2002 I met Mike McCullough at the Trenton Athletic Club and he agreed to sponsor me. I quickly became involved and was President in 2013/2014.
I grew up in Dearborn Heights and attended St Sebastian grade school. My high school years were spent in Detroit at Holy Redeemer. I attended Detroit College of Business where my goal was to become an executive secretary. I got married in 1974 and had two boys, Charlie and Bob. I was a "stay at home" mom until both boys were in school. I got a part time job as a teller at Security Bank in 1985. I loved my job and decided to make it a career. I was a platform banker, Management trainee, Assistant Manager and was promoted to Regional Manager in 1995.
I married my current husband Bill in 2011. We have a cabin in Lost Lake Woods Club in Lincoln (39 miles south of Alpena). We look forward to spending our weekends visiting with friends and enjoying the outdoors. I am the Treasurer of the club and sit on the Finance committee.
I am looking forward to 2020 when I will become the Chairman of the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber. This is another organization I have been involved with for many years.
I enjoy "grandma time" with my grandkids, Cooper and Carter - 11 years old, Carsen - 7 years old and Gemma - 6 years old.
A couple of little know facts about me - I did a commercial for Vic Tanny when I was nineteen (I was replaced by Farrah Fawcett in the next commercial) and I rode in a Pace car in the Detroit Grand Prix (did you know that all Pace car drivers are women).
I look forward to what the future brings, enjoying life ever day.
