Good morning!
Today we'll hear about the Winter Beach Blast that took place Saturday. Crystal Gardens looked great with all the colorful umbrellas set up by Labadie's, thanks to Wes and his crew, and the other decorations the committee set up! The night was full of fun and activities, from the auctions and raffles to the hula hoop and limbo contests and the excitement of the Coconut Cash drawing! Thank you to chairperson Sandy Mull and her committee for all the hard work put in over the last few months! The last week has definitely been a whirlwind of activity for all of us! The committee was as follows: Sandy Mull, Tom Appleby, Mike Concessi, Jane Dunn, Paulette Dillingham, Valerie Dzagulones, myself, Elaine Hart, Matt Hatty, Kathy Kane, Ronnie Ruelle, Rick Williams & Jean Wloszek. Thank you!! If you don't already know who won the Coconut Cash drawing this year, come to the meeting today and find out!
Thank you to Ronnie who made sure to take many pictures at the Beach Blast to share in this newsletter and on Facebook and thank you to Kathy for posting all the pictures leading up to the event!
If you're interested, the Beach Blast committee will be getting together Wednesday evening at 5:30pm at Savannah's to talk about how the event went and thoughts for next year.
Tuesday evening, the District 6400 Grant Committee, including our own Bill Jasman, will present a grant seminar at Trenton City Hall at 6:30pm. They will talk about the requirements for applying for grants with the district to fund project ideas locally and around the world. If you're interested in attending, please let Bob Howey know and he'll get you signed up.
Thank you again to Noel and Debbie Jackson for allowing us to use the Trenton Village Theater last week for our meeting while Westfield Center was out of commission! It worked out nicely.
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within. ~ Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
Reading with the Characters - Saturday, March 14th
We'll be teaming up with DYPAC again this year to host Reading with the Characters! Please let Matt Hatty or Noel Jackson know if you'd like to dress as a character and read a story to the kids. It's really fun and I think any of the readers will say they feel pretty important when the kids come up and want their autograph!
***February is Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month***
As designated by Rotary International, Promoting Peace is one of the six Areas of Focus, as described here:
Promoting peace
Today, 42 million people are displaced by armed conflict or persecution. Through our partnerships with several leading universities, Rotary Peace Fellows develop the skills to strengthen peace efforts, train local leaders to prevent and mediate conflict, and support long-term peace building in areas affected by conflict. We provide up to 100 peace fellowships per year at Rotary Peace Centers.
Foundation Minute for the Week of February 23, 2015
Having fun while helping others is what Rotary is all about. Too often we forget that giving our money, our time and our talents to help others through The Rotary Foundation and through local community service projects is one of the most important ways that Rotarians have fun. Sometimes it is working together on a local hands-on service project and fundraiser. Sometimes it is informing people about all that Rotary does for both the world and our local community through The Rotary Foundation. Sometimes it is seeing the results of a
district or global grant. And sometimes it is simply that warm,
satisfied feeling that comes from knowing we are Rotarians and are helping others.
Thank you for contributing to The Rotary Foundation and enjoy having fun.
